Question"The website cannot display the page" error message

I am having a funny permissions issue.  I have created a new site for some external users on our externally facing web app, and I can't get the users signed it for some reason.

Any time they try to access the system they get the following error:

The website cannot display the page

     HTTP 500

    Most likely causes:

    • The website is under maintenance.
    • The website has a programming error
The site works just fine for me, and for a couple of other internal people, (all on our internal AD Tree).  However I can't get it to work for the external people on our external LDAP tree.  I know that the tree itself is working because I have hundreds of other people on it using other sites (and my phone would light up big time if that failed), but for some reason it isn't working on this site.

I have removed and re-added the users to this site a couple times.  I have blown away their LDAP accounts and re-created them.  Then, looking at the error message I thought maybe something was being displayed on the page that was linked back to a site they didn't have access to so I made sure the site was completely generic.

There's nothing in the event logs that looks like it pertains to this, and I can't find any other help when googling the error message.

I am assuming it's not a basic rights issue since I'm not getting an access denied error message, but I'm not sure why I and other people can get at the site, but the external people can not.

Any ideas would be most appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Ted

So, without knowing too much about your setup let me assume these facts where wrong please let me know

you have an AD set up in the DMZ with external users
you have a firewall (ISA, ASA, or something) between the Extenal Users and the Site
you may or may not have Extended the Zone for these External Users

So couple places i would look off the bat

    1. Check my AAM
    2. Check my Publishing Rules on my Firewall if ISA then check the Link Translation
