    Hi All,

am currently facing an issue on a document library.

My document lib has more than 2000 items and has versioning enabled. Some how the version settings are changing automatically. I mean the versioning is being disabled by itself.

This is happening only on this library all other libraries in the site and site collection are working fine.

    Im using  WSS 3.0.

Can any one help with this.

    Thanks in advance,
    Sowmya

    hi,

i feel this might be due to reaching maximum limit for documents in shared document.

    Hi ullasjoshi,

Thanks for responding to my Query.

I initially suspected the same but i dont find any document or so supporting my assumption.

Can you help me provide find any document supporting our assumption, so that I can confirm this is the cause for misbehavior.

    Thanks,

    Hi,

Can you check one thing you put this document in One folder in that list and then see versioning setting.

    Bingo!

    i support Shrivallabh,

creating a new folder will let u adding another 2000s of docs.

well i feel i read in some book that shared doc lib has a limit for uploading number of docs. if i remember correctly its 2000+.
this limit can be modified by adding new folder.

so at max sharepoint will support 2000 folders with 2000 docs in each.

hope this info was useful :-)

    Hi All,

    Thanks for your responses.

I have the documents in the library in a well structured folder format, so I dont really think it makes sense to have all the folders again in a new folder also this will change the navigation for the documents which is not feasible for me. So I guess I have to look for some alternative solution.

    Thanks,
    Sowmya,

Did you checked for any version limitations set in the document library you are having at document library settings - versioning settings - Document version history -

Check whether the version limit checkbox is checked and any version limit specified.

Also you can find the limitations of sharepoint 2007:

Even though there is a recommended limit of 2000 documents per list (or 2000 documents per folder and then 2000 folders per list), this is only a *recommended* limit. Beyond slowing things down, there should be no effect on the system and everything that worked with 1999 documents should work with say 3,000 documents.

The actual genuine limit is 5,000,000 items per list (which as you see is even more than 2,000 x 2,000 which is the recommended maximum even when using folders).

    Hi Sowmya,

Would you please make a comparison between the erroneous library and others which work well, such as customization if there is any, the number of items, versioning setting and other document library settings?

Since versioning was disabled automatically, I think you can also try to enable versioning again and wait for the result.

Let me know the result if possible. Thanks.

    Best Regards.
