IM and MOSS using Office Communicator or something else
Hi,
I want to add an Instant Messenger fuunctionality to our MOSS Intranet. Is Office Communicator the best way to do this. I want something simple that connects into Active Directory and lets u quickly pick off who u want to message and talk to them. I also want something that will keep a log of all chats in case of HR issues.
Does anyone have any tutorials etc... on how to use Office Communciator for this purpose. Do i just install Communicator on the intranet server...or what else is there to it.
Thanks for any feedback...

I've seen Chatterbox used - it's part of the CKS.
I believe the SharePoint 2007 Unleashed book has a chapter on configuring Office Communicator.

- Live Communication Server would be perfect solution for this purpose.
It integrates with AD and Shows presence in almost all Office based applications like Outlook, MOSS 2007.
You can also save the chat history in the user's Exchange folder if deployed in the organization.
This should get you started:

Madhur you can consider using Office Communication Server 2007 and client Office Communicator to enable IM, Presence and more...it has an archieval mechanism to record all the transactions. Very well integrates across all MS products and has Object Model to integrate with other LOB apps as well. Basic authentication happens through Active Directory.
