Tuesday, September 30, 2008 1:29 AMIs this lists one of the lists on the Fab 40 templates? If so, try these steps (it worked on another Fab 40 site list). From the list > Settings > List Settings > Advanced Settings > Allow the Management of Content Types = Yes. Once you have done this, you will see the various content types for the list on the list settings page. You can select the content type and the details will be displayed. From the content type details screen you can add columns to the content type from the existing site columns. You will also notice that when you create new columns you will have the option to add the column to all list content types.
Hopefully these steps will give you what you need. If they don't work, let us know some more details about your list and maybe we will have some other optiosn for you.

Tuesday, September 30, 2008 2:05 PMI think you want to add columns to the NewForm.aspx, not really to the list itself. Not all columns are visible on the NewForm.aspx after installing the template. You can modify the property to show the column on the NewForm by using a tool called SharePoint Tips Utility (OOB it is not possible with standard SharePoint): take a look at Hide list fields upon creation of a SharePoint list item for a detailed description.

Tuesday, September 30, 2008 2:48 PMThe columns have already been added to the list.
What I need, is to be able to add some of the new columns and the existing columns to the NewForm.aspx page.
How do I do this? I noticed that Jennifer recommended the Sharepoint Utility Pack. I don't want to use a 3rd party tool. There has to be a way to do this yourself. What do most sharepoint developers do to edit the NewForms?- Edited by SeeingStarsIsBlinding Tuesday, September 30, 2008 2:50 PM

Tuesday, September 30, 2008 2:52 PMWell, please take a look at Hide list fields upon creation of a SharePoint list item: it exactly describes step-by-step how you can achieve this.

Tuesday, September 30, 2008 2:59 PMDid you go through the content types and make sure your column was associated with the content type?
Turn on the management of content types:
- Navigate to the List>
- Settings >
- List Settings >
- Advanced Settings >
- Allow the Management of Content Types = Yes.
Associate list column with content type:- Navigate to the List>
- Settings >
- List Settings >
- Content Types >
- Select the content type you want to change
- Select Add Existing Site Columns
- Choice your site column
- Select OK
This has worked on several occasions when I have used the Fab 40 templates.

Tuesday, September 30, 2008 3:20 PMYes, i have already performed those steps. Does not have anything to do with setting the visibility to the CreateNew form. I thought, maybe if I make them required, it would place them on the CreateForm, but Sharepoint didn't do so, how stupid. Any other ideas? People have had to of needed to do this. This is crazy that there doesn't seem to be a simple answer to this question.

Tuesday, September 30, 2008 3:24 PMJust use the tool I mentioned: it will fix your issue: you will be able to add or hide fields on the NewForm.aspx page (also on the EditForm.aspx and DispForm.aspx page)....

I need to know how that tool adds the fields to the page before I use it. Is it locating the page, and directly editing the ASPX page, if so.. how do i locate the page?
I'm not going to download a 3rd party tool and start using something i don't know about or what its doing.
Is this what everyone else is doing to accomplish this?- Edited by SeeingStarsIsBlinding Tuesday, September 30, 2008 3:26 PM

Tuesday, September 30, 2008 3:29 PMThe tool will update some properties in the content database. Each field has some properties: three of these properties are flags which determine if a field will be visible on the NewForm.aspx, the EditForm.aspx and the DispForm.aspx. So the tool isn't modifying any .aspx pages.
The lack in MOSS/WSS in my opinion here is that you can't modify these properties in the standard administration pages of SharePoint: so you are obliged to use a tool...

Tuesday, September 30, 2008 6:33 PMI was able to add fields to the service request content type without any issues using the steps above. If you let me know what issues you are seeing, we might be able to work through them. You should be able to do all of this without having to use a third party tool.

Thursday, October 02, 2008 8:39 PMYour steps outlined do not accomplish what i am trying to do. I have tried it. Maybe you did those steps on a custom list?
Anyways, lets be more specific. The Priority column is already added to the content type for Service Request.
I want this field to show up when I click Create New Service Request. How can I accomplish this without using a 3rd party tool?- Edited by SeeingStarsIsBlinding Thursday, October 02, 2008 9:52 PM

Friday, October 03, 2008 4:56 PMSorry I wasn't able to offer more assistance. I have tried to recreate your issue, however I am not sure that I am having the same issues you are seeing. I used the Help Desk Fab 40 template and when I click New Service Request, I am able to see the Priority drop down. I am also able to add new columns. Hopefuly someone else will be able to offer more help.
