Saving Infopath form back to Outlook task

  Do you have Outlook 2007, InfoPath 2007, and MOSS 2007? 
  
  If so, how about a SharePoint task list that you sync to Outlook (Actions > Connect to Outlook), and in those SharePoint tasks, reference InfoPath forms that reside in a form library using URLs instead of attachments.  That way, when the task is opened in Outlook, you have a link to the form that you can click on, open, complete, and submit.  It writes the data back to the form library, and you can then change your Outlook task status accordingly, which then syncs with the SharePoint task list.

  No MOSS at this point.  Your design is better but not possible today.  I simply need to get the form data back in the task as XML.  It will be parsed by another backend system.

  It may be possible, but I can't imagine a way to do that with the form as an attachment to a task.  Maybe if you don't think of it as an Outlook task and just publish a form template to a network location that submits to email, then folks can either receive it as an interactive form within the body of the email (requires Outlook 2007), or as an attachment to an email.  I like it in the body better, because then there is no attachment, and the user simply fills out the form inside the email and submits it back to the network location.  All the XML would reside in that network location for parsing by the backend system.
