Wednesday, July 28, 2010 1:26 PMWhat account have you designated for the search service? Did you change the account when you stopped the service manually? Did you stop the service through CA or the Services interface?

Hi ,
You need to stop the "WSS" Service from CA then Start the Service from CA only then it will automatically work and one more Setting you have to check.
GO To SSP rightclick -->Edit Properties -->Check the Index is configured/set if not set the Index and do search.
