I have a Sharepoint intranet farm that is setup to seach all site collections within the farm, search within it's own site collection and provide a people search.  At the top level home site collection everything works like it should.  If I go into another site collection and select the drop down of "This Site: Environment" which is the site collection name, the results come up with No Results.  If you do this same thing within the top (Home) site collection it works fine.  All other site collections within the web application do the same thing, provide no results within their own site collection.  What is causing this?  I have other farms/web application that work fine other than this one.  I have compared settings between the two farms and they appear to be the same.  What am I missing?

I have the exact same problem, search results are shown on the root site collection but not for any other site collections.  Please let me know if you find a solution, thanks!

The latest cumulative update fixed the issue.

Please provide a LINK to the latest cumulative update you are referring to.  I do not see the specific search issue listed in any of the December updates?

I applied this cumulative update for my customer and it did not fix this issue.  Anyone else still have the "This Site:" not working when enterprise search center does work?

OK, I can't believe this.  So the cumulative update from December you referenced did NOT fix my customer's problem.  However, I found a forum posting from 2007 (!!) that did fix our problem.  This is the original 2007 and 2008 posting:  http://social.technet.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/sharepointsearch/thread/906045d8-8782-4c39-be1b-7632f7239019

It consists of several people experiencing the same problem, but each had different things that fixed their "This Site" contextual search problems.

The one that fixed my customer's ended up being quite simple. When performing a This Site search it displays the results in /_layouts/OSSsearchResults.aspx  for MOSS of course.  Well if I changed that URL to /_layouts/SearchResults.aspx then the results appeared.

Thus I renamed the original OSSsearchResults.aspx file on the front end servers and copied the SearchResults.aspx file and renamed the copied version to OSSsearchResults.aspx, performed an IISreset, and all search worked properly.

Seems in our case something corrupted that MOSS results page I guess.  What a pain in the butt this was to find!

Hope this helps someone else though.
