Workflow approvers added sequentially
- We have a SharePoint list with items that require approval. The process requires that each approver not only approve his/her task, but to also assign the next approver in the chain. Is this type of WF available by SharePoint?

You're right, the OOB one will only go through the approvers in the order that the workflow initiator specifies, and it isn't customizable by the Approvers themselves, to make it go to a specific person next. At that point, you'd have to create your own workflow using SharePoint Designer or Visual Studio.

- Yes, there is an out of box Approval workflow that will do this. Click the drop-down box on any item, and click "workflows". Then, click on the Approval Workflow. This allows you to set up the workflow. Whatever order you enter in the Approvers names, that's the order that the workflow will send it to each person in order.

I realize that the Approval Workflow can do that however what I am trying to do is only specify the first approver in the workflow. Then when the first approver goes to approve their task, I wish for them to specify to the workflow who the next approver will be and so on. - Laura (and others), please remember that only MOSS has the Approval Workflow, WSS 3.0 doesn't.So when replying to a question (like this one) where the SharePoint product isn't specified, please try to remember to add "MOSS only" somewhere in your reply if that applies. We've had lots of cases of WSS 3.0 users spending time trying to find something that doesn't exist !(Of course they ought to have said which product they were using - but then so should MOSS users)(Moderator)
