SBS2008 SP2
External 2 TB USB disk drive -> backup device
My daily backup is failing. I removed the USB drive and mounted on another system and it gave drive letter and could open folders. Remounted on SBS2008 server
I open system-> manage-> Disk management and saw the external USB drive but it dos have a drive letter assigned to it.
I reran Server backup wizard from SBS console and it saw the external drive and I just changed the daily time. It ran to completion.
Last night I got another failed backup. Details are Creation of the shared protection point timed out.
What is occurring and how do I fix it? It was working for some time.

Monday, December 31, 2012 12:41 AMWhat is the size of shadow copies area for each drive server has? Is it unlimited or set to certain value? If it's a value then set them all to unlimited and attempt backup again.

Here is my status:
1. I checked the shadow settings and made unlimited
2. ran manual backup -> failed
I checked log and found Bad Block" on DRV0. Since New Years day was idle, I ran chkdsk on DRV0 (C Drive) and the external USB device (9 hours). The C drive had file system errors that were corrected.
Yesterday, I performed a manual backup to successful completion. This morning, the regularly scheduled back again failed. I am investigating the logs to see what happened. I found Volume Shadow Copy operation failed with error code '2155348075'.

Thursday, January 10, 2013 2:58 PMI reviewed disk configuration and saw that I had shadow on the C drive. It has no shares. I removed C drive from shadow list. I now have had one cycle (daily) of successful backup of C Drive (the SBS O/S). I check the next few days to see if it is sustainable and post results.
