Unable to logon to Companyweb as Administrator on SBS 2003 Server, though it does work from another machine.

Just being prompted for credentials and then says: You are not authorized to view this page.

Need to move the Companyweb from and SBS2003 server over to a new SBS2008 server. Not doing a Migration, starting from scratch.

I seem to need to logon to the http://companyweb as the Administrator to get things going, and cannot seem to do that currently on the SBS2003 server itself, though I can logon from other machines as Administrator, though I'm still being prompted for credentials it does accept them and logon OK.

Can I continue from another mahine ? ie another server ? or do I have to be on the SBS2003 server itself.

Also, what is the best way to go about this ? WSS 2.0 on SBS2003..

You can continue from another machine.

You can try adding companyweb to Truested Sites in Internet Explorer

You can also try to disable IE Enhanced Secutiry Configuration for the time you want to work on companyweb on SBS 2003 server

Thanks for the reply Krystian. I can now logon OK.

Have already been following the advice in this article, but I get as far as this step and get stuck.

    1. In the text box in Step 1: Choose Users, type Windows SBS SharePoint_OwnersGroup

Just says that the user could not be added.??.

Thanks Merv, though I'm pretty sure it says that it's WSS 2.0, at least it does in Add/Remove programs, but I take your point re the side by side.

I'll check soon as I'm back onsite this morning.

That said this isn't a migration as such as the source SBS 2003 server isn't particularly healthy.

So the SBS 2008 is new, new user accounts et all.

What about the practically of transferring the Companyweb from the old SBS 2003 to the new SBS 2008 server, it this going to be worth it in the long run ?

    >>First and foremost – in order for this to succeed, you need to be running the same version of WSS 3.0 on both your SBS 2003 and SBS >>2008.  On both servers, open SharePoint 3.0 Central Administration, navigate to the Operations tab, then click on the Servers in Farm >>link.

Don't have any of this so look slike its regular Sharepoint WSS 2.0..

    So any ideas anyone ?

Basically I want/need to be able to transfer Companyweb from WSS 2.0 on SBS 2003 to a new SBS 2008 server, no migration involved here, new SBS 2008 server setup from scratch, is this do-able ?

From that link, the following should work if you can access the SBS 2003 machine and make the required modifications.  (not the prettiest end result as you'll end up with a companyweb2 on your SBS 2008, but the content from the WSS 2.0 should at least be there).

Got a backup of their companyweb which I'm going to restore to a test VM SBS2003 server to have a play with.

Other than their holiday calendar there isn't much in there which they cannot easily setup again from scratch on their new SBS2008 companyweb

I see that the holiday calendar can be exported into Excel..

Is there an easy was to just export this and then import it into the new Companyweb on SBS2008.

Seem that is all that might be required..any ideas ?
