Sunday, January 15, 2012 9:44 PMI'm trying to install Carbonite Business Backup on my Small Business Server 2003. When I attempt to launch the install .exe file it throws this error immediately "The Procedure entry point EncodePointer could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNAL32.dll". The Carbonite folks can't help and referred me to y'all. Can you give me a clue?

Several references on the net to installs that do not work on versions of XP prior to SP2. XP and Server 2003 are built on the same kernal, so this *might* be your issue.
Hard to imagine that there are still Server 2003/SBS 2003 systems that do not have all the SP installed, but we know there are still some that skipped SP1, which may also be in this mix.
I have to point out that you should not rely on internet backups for your server. It will take days/weeks to get it all back. For selected data files this may be good, but I have no experience with Carbonite on servers.

Hi Greg,
Thanks for posting.
Performed some research and returned results indicate that this problem can occur if the system does not have latest service pack. So, as Larry suggested, please install all the patches and keep the computer up-to-date.
Also try run System File Checker to fix corrupt system files and a reinstall of Vs2008.
Run SFC

Reinstall Visual Studio

Thanks
