    Hello,

I am looking for some help about Upgrading client computers from windows 7 to windows 8 pro, however These PCs are clients of SBS 2011 Essential network.

Before upgrading I think there are some preparations I must be do before, but I'm not so sure.

Could anyone please assist about what to do before upgrading client?

    Thank you!

I would uninstall the client connector, personally speaking.

But i have not yet tried this - i was planning to do it today.

    Hi,

Be aware that existing GPOs (ex.: folder redirection) won't work with Win 8 workstations. This is precisely why I had to upgrade my server first from SBS 2011 Essentials to Windows Server 2012 Essentials. Then, I could go on upgrading my Win7 workstations to Win8 pro workstations. Works prefectly now!

    Good Luck.

Well, i did the upgrade and it worked perfectly (without uninstalling the connector)

However, i would say this was a clean Win7 machine, i litterally installed the OS, then the SBS Connector, then did the upgrade.

There have been questions on the forum regarding this procedure (after that fact) where someone has had issues with the backups etc.

So, my advice? Make sure you have a backup of the workstation (which you should) do the upgrade. if you have any issues - dont fight them.

Roll back - uninstall the connector - then do the upgrade again - install the connector.

Sorry Yves, but that is not correct.

It is a simple change to enable the GPOs to work with Windows 8 machines.

    Update:

I disconnected (uninstall) the connector , delete the Client PC from Server Dashboard , restart client , >

    > upgrades PC to windows 8 + install all windows update.

Re-install the connector again , but I got error message that this PC client is already connect to the  server. (don't know why)

Then my time is up, any idea what I should do next?

Update: I decided to do a clean install after that problem,

    Back up  > format C:\  > install windows 8 > windows update >install connector via http://servername/connect

Client Restart > everything is ok
