using smtp connector instead of pop3 connector to receive external mail exchange 2010

I'm having trouble getting our isp to open port 110 for me, I was thinking of trying to set up a smtp receive connector via the article below:

But how do I configure user mail accounts to receive emails like I would using the sbs management console pop3connector wizard?

How is your email delivered to your server currently?
The POP3 conenctor is to download email from mailboxes hosted by a third party, into Exchange.
