    Hi

Trying out the Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Data Mining Add-ins for Office.

If getting the data from a view it is possible to use the Analyze tab. If connecting to an SSAS 2008 cube functionality is not available.

Is there a way of using the addin with the SSAS Pivot?

    Thanks

Tasks within Analyze tab work with data that is in Excel. If you can extract data from the cube and put it in Excel, they will work.

Many of the tasks within Analyze tab can be done on SSAS Pivot data if you use Data Mining tab, they are just a little more difficult to do there.

What is the task that you would like to do on the SSAS Pivot?

    Hi Tatyana

At the moment I am stepping through the microsoft examples i.e. Key Influencer, detect category. But I want to use "real" data. my data is already in a cube and I want to use the cube so I (or non technical users for that matter) can easily filter that data down.

So the solution could be to filter in SSAS pivots and then copy and paste into an Excel table!

BTW when I try and connect to the cube using the datamining tab .... I seem to be connecting to the views in the DMV ....

Sorry for giving you a misleading information initially. With "Data Mining" tab, you can use Analysis services data sources, but you cannot extract data from a cube. The only tool that has UI for creating mining models based on cube is BI Dev Studio (visual studio).
