Answered PowerPivot Installation Error

I am running Windows 7 with the RTM of Office 2010 (full install) - both 32-bit versions. When I try to install the 32-bit version of PowerPivot it tells me that I need Excel 2010 installed. I have received this error with previous beta versions of the product and was never able to install any of them. I was hoping that once I got to RTM of Office 2010 and RTM of PowerPivot it would be fixed, but trying it today didn't work.

Has anyone received this error when they actually have the prerequisites actually installed? Since I did an upgrade from Office 2007 to Office 2010 do I need to do something to clean up some old registry entries? Does it matter that I still have Office SharePoint Designer 2007 installed? If I knew what exactly the installer was looking for then I could either clean it up or figure out what's missing. Does anyone have any insight?

    Thanks,
    Chris

    Hi Chris

I have the same problem. I solved it by modifying the msi file using Microsoft Orca tool. Navigate to the InstallExecuteSequence table and remove "MISSINGPREREQERROR_32". Now you should be able to install PowerPivot without any problems.

I was able to resolve it by Ctrl+Right Clicking on the MSI and running it as administrator (even though I was already a local admin).
