Answered Set Report Builder 3.0 as Default Click Once Report Builder Version

We have a SSRS server that was at SS 2008 then was updated to SS 2008 R2.  When the server was stood up the DBAs did not understand how to set Report Builder 2.0 to be the Default Click Once Report Builder Version.  We were able explain to them how to do that with the Tech Net article http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd795295(SQL.100).aspx. "How to: Set Report Builder 2.0 as the Default ClickOnce Report Builder Version". Yesterday they upgraded that server to SS 2008 R2.  Now Report Builder ClickOnce does not work at all. The article in Tech Net "How to: Set Report Builder 1.0 as the Default ClickOnce Report Builder Version" at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff487480(v=sql.105) states that Report Builder 2.0 will not work for SS 2008 R2 and explains how to set the default ClickOnce to Report Builder 1.0. It is my theory that the update to SSRS 2008 R2 left the setting for the default ClickOnce version pointing to the folder for Report Builder 2.0 which does not exist in SS 2008 R2, and that to get Report Builder ClickOnce working again they would need to point it to the folder for Report Builder 3.0. However I have not found anything to indicate what the name of that folder is. Since we need to give these DBA precise instructions in order to get them to discover the issues, I would need the name of that folder. Does anyone know the name of this folder.

    Hello joeller,

The report builder 3.0 path is very similar to 2.0.

    • For Native mode: /ReportBuilder/ReportBuilder_3_0_0_0.application
    • For Sharepoint Integrated mode: /_vti_bin/ReportBuilder/ReportBuilder_3_0_0_0.application

In addition, if you leave Custom Report Builder launch URL empty in the Site Settings page in native mode, it will also use the Report builder 3.0 by default.

If it need more information, please tell us.

    Regards,

    Edward

Thanks.  As I suspected when they updated the server's SS version the setting was left the same.  Using the 3_0_0_0.application path they were able to get the thing working.  Again thanks for your help.

Where or how did you make that change?

I am running SCCM 2012 and I am trying to create/edit reports but it fails.

I made the following changes to 3.0 in regedit:

    HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\ConfigMgr10\AdminUI\Reporting\ReportBuilderApplicationManifestName'

    but still get same error.

    Open Report Manager.

    Click Site settings

Under the general tab (at least in SSRS 2008R2)

See heading Custom Report Builder launch URL: URL:

    Set it to be "/ReportBuilder/ReportBuilder_3_0_0_0.application"

Hi, sorry to jump in but i have a similar prob:

my setup sql 2008r2 sp1 enterprise

on a same machine as sccm 2012

    Tasks done with no success;

    - edited the registry key to 3.0

    - on Report Manager the Custom report builder url point to "/ReportBuilder/ReportBuilder_3_0_0_0.application"

    - installed report builder 3.0 on the server

but i'm still getting when open on sccm 2012 the "Create New Report" the error message "Report Builder 2.0 is not installed as a click-once application on report server..."

But if i go to the url  http://server/reports and click on Repor Builder option, Report Builder 3.0 opens.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Regards.

I don't know anything about SCCM 2012.  However based on my experience with Report Manager, may I suggest that there might be a similar setting in an equivalent SCCM manager stating where it expects to find Report builder.  Based on previous experience with MS products making the proper setting in one product does not automatically set in the other; particularly when they are different versions of the different products (2008R2 vs 2012) .

Hope that helps some.  Maybe Edward Zhu can help if he is still following this thread.

If i run sccm console with the administrator account i can edit / create custom reports but not with the user account that i used to install and admin sql & sccm.

    how is this possible? :S

    1. In SSRS, Report Manager specifies the users that can access or work in the report folders regardless of your rights on the machine.  You have to configure the users specifically.

    2.  Again I know nothing about SCCM.  I never even heard of it til this morning.

Report builder 3.0 was installed when you installed SS 2008 R2 SSRS.
