        Is there a way to specify how many words should be between the search words in a fulltext query. I hear you can weight the results but is there a correlation between the weight of the results and how close the NEAR function in the full text index is looking?

    No, while other Microsoft search products do allow this, and this feature was close to being deployed in SQL 2008 iFTS it did not make it to the final product.
