SQL Server 2005 SP4 CU3 Only patched Tools and NOT SQL Can I also apply (KB2494120)

I've installed SQL Server 2005 SP4 CU3 and its patched "SQL Server Tools and Workstation Components 2005" from "5057" to "5266"
However SQL Server Engine is not patched and shows the following message "The product instance MSSQLSERVER has had update 5057 installed. You do not need to install this update. An update equal to or greater than 5292 should be downloaded."
1) Is this standard practice to run under different SQL Engine and Tool versions?
2) Also are there any issues in applying Security (KB2494120) to the server is this current state and will it update SQL Engine and Tools?

Hello,
The following article states that when you apply the KB2494120 update the database engines will show version 9.0.5057. This means that the update has been applied to your server already.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2494120
I would apply the following update (the last one for SQL Server 2005) as it will update both the database engine and client tools.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2716427Hope this helps.
