SQL CALs, version, license # locations and more...

SQL 2005 and SQL 2008 and SQL 2012:
Where can I see the # of CALs, version #, license # and type (Standard Edition etc) for each of the above SQL releases?
Once found, how can I determine if the version currently in use is upgradeable to the next or newest version?

Hello,
Please note that SQL Server does not keep track of licenses or CALs.
Please run the following query to know version, service pack and edition of each SQL Server instance:
SELECT@@VERSION,
SERVERPROPERTY('ProductLevel') AS ProductLevel,
SERVERPROPERTY('Edition') AS Edition
GO
To know about version and edition upgrades supported by SQL Server setup, please see the following resources:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143393.aspx (if you are planning to upgrade to SQL 2012)
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143393(v=sql.105).aspx (When upgrading a SQL 2008 R2)
