Answered Agent installation failed - error 80070647

I have searched all the threads for agent installation failures and haven't actually found this exact error. I'm hoping that someone has the answer out there.

I'm trying to install the agent on one machine and it keeps failing. When viewing the

MOMAgentmgnt.log there is one statement that says "08:35:08 AM : CMOMAgentFunctions::GetPatches : MsiGetProductCode failed HResult: 80070647"

Can anyone tell me what has caused the agent installation to fail and what this code means?

All other PC's in this same OU have installed agents without any problems so it has to be explicit to this machine.

    Thank you!

    Hi,

I agree with Tim ,the error code indicated that the Automatic Update service has been set to disabled.

    To resolve do the following:

    1. Set the Automatic Update service to Manual.

    a.    Click ”Start”, then click ”run”

    b.    Type ”Services.msc”, find ”Automatic Update” service in the right pane.

    c.    Double click ”Automatic Update”, please select “Manual” in the “Startup Type” drop list.

    2. Push the agent again.

        a. Please run “Computer and Device Management Wizard”.

    b. Go through the wizard and find the target computer.

    c. Push the agent to the target computer.

3.During the installation, ”Automatic Update” service will be started automatically.

    4. When the install completes, stop the AU service and set to disabled. Agent will run fine.

    Hope this helps.

Check the client that fails and make sure that the Windows Update/Automatic Update service is not disabled. If that service is disabled it will result in the error you are seeing.

    Hi,

As we know that SCE has WSUS component which can deploy update to client computers. Also we configure that the client computer should contact to SCE Server to download update.

All these settings we created will apply to the client computers through GPO (SCE manganed computers group policy).

Meanwhile,SCE Server will download the update from Microsoft Update website,so it need to has the automatic update service on.

    Hope it helps.

There's another possibility. Check the event logs of the target computer, you need to have W2K SP4 or W2K3 SP1 installed, otherwise you get the *same* error message that is discussed in this thread. That was my issue.
