Windows XP, Home Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 3.
The following shows that on each Startup 266 entries are made in a log file showing a failed attempt to get the user CID.
It never stops.
Can I do something to fix this?

Performance issues

Just curious if anyone else considers SCE a very slow performing program. I only have about 120 clients in SCE, and the "Group Update Deployment" report takes over 10 minutes to run. Opening the "Computers" module takes over a minute before anything displays. Getting to the Unapproved Updates list (Click "Updates", then "Unapproved Updates") takes over a minute. Just loading the SCE UI on the SCE server itself takes upwards of 3-5 minutes. (The SCE server has 4 GB of memory and a 2.4 Ghz processor (single core).)

Would the latest release of the Windows Internal Database (SP3) help? Any other suggestions?

Has anyone found an answer to this yet? I have uninstalled/reinstalled the agents both manually and through the push. Rebooted the client, rebooted the sce server. Forced the group policy to reapply, forced the health agent to /reportnow and I still get the error. The client shows up under the agent managed section but under the health state column it shows not monitored. The clients can ping the SCE server by FQDN and RDP to it as well so name resolution is working fine.

On the the SCE server I get this in the log

A number of servers go to Pending Management with "Agent License Limit Exceeded"

Although we only have 26 servers (with a limit of 31), I cannot install additional agents on servers, as they go to the pending management bucket with the agent license limit exceeded error. I have Essentials 2007 SP1 installed, which according to some docomentation should take care of this problem.

I have rejected and re-installed the agent with the same results.

Does anyone have some ideas for me?

I can't install the SCE 2007 agent on Windows 2008 R2. When I try to do so I get the following error:

"The MOM Server could not start the MOMAgentInstaller service on computer "server" in the time.

This service is used to perform configuration operations on the computer before the Microsoft Operations Manager agent can be configured.

Install account: DOMAIN\Account

Error Code: 80070102

Error Description: The wait operation timed out. "

I then tried installing the agent manually I get "Account Verification Error"

Discovery Wizard/Task Windows Never Complete

I'm in the process of migrating SCE 2007 to a new production server build (Win2k3 SP2 x32). Previously I've been running on a PC with Win2k3 x32 using local SQL Express for the Backend. The new server has a full SQL 2005 license installed locally. The deployment went smoothly, firstly SQL & reporting services were installed then upgraded to SP2. The SCE RTM install went without a hitch, the dependencies were met first time and there were no errors. All good so far!

Now to the task of deploying the agents. The first agent deployed fine, the machine was then left overnight while the GPOs updated. For some reason I can now no longer deploy any agents or run tasksl. I've tried automatic or advanced discovery, however it just sits on the discovery in progress screen forever... The ops manager log shows that verification is succesful and I've gone through all the troubleshooting steps for agent deployment - they all pass.

I believe it's a problem with the SCE console itself, this is supported by the fact that running any task such as display network connections results in the task window staying on the screen forever. However, if I go to the Monitoring tab and select task status, all the tasks and discoveries are shown as succesful!

I don't believe it's a performance issue, the server is a Dell 2950 with quad core Xeon x32, 4Gb RAM & 6 * SCSI disks. This system is supposed to be in production so I'm under a bit of pressure to get it working again. Any help would be appreciated!

I have SCE2007 installed and running. I can ping workstations, Remote Desktop to the XP and Vista workstations just fine. If I try to use Remote Assistance, I get this error:

'A program could not start. Please try again.'

Has anyone seen this error, and if so, is this fixable?

Most computers are running XP, about half with SP1 and half with SP2.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Help with URL monitoring - duplicate notification email and notification even when website is up

Hi guys,

I'm setting up SCE07 to monitor URL by using Authoring > Monitor > Add monitoring wizard > Web application > URL
There are 2 issues which I'm encountering -

1) Two very identical active alerts are generated when I put the monitored website down
     First one = Alert: Web Application Request - Monitor Chris's website pack 5
     Second one = Alert: Web Application - Monitor Chris's website pack 5

Now, notification has been set up to email myself when the website goes down. As two alerts are generated each time, I also end up getting 2 emails.
Would any expert out there kindly let me know how to get-around this?

2) As mentioned above, I get email notifications when I put the monitored website down. Strangely each time when I put the same website up (publish), I get email notifications as well! It seems like the the "Active alert" would disappear from SCE and then emails would be sent.

Any clue on how to overcome this?

We have recently had an SCE installation done, and have noticed that there seems to be a lot of databases running for SCE, i was wondering how many databases are needed as a minimum to run SCE. We have SCE installed on the 1 server using SQL back end engine, but not the full SQL we are using SQL enterprise.

We have the following databases in the following folders.

D:\Program Files\System Centre Essentials 2007\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Data

Operations Manager.mdf   1.6gb
Operations ManagerDW.mdf 1gb
SUSDB.mdf   3gb

D:\SCE\WsusContent   has around 11.3gb in it

Is this pretty normal or not???

Hello,

We migrated SCE last week to new hardware, we had a few problems with the clients getting updates but after an IIS permission change we got that worked out.

Our client computers are no longer communicating the with SCE and we got the opsmgr connector errors 20000 on the server and 20070 on the client machines. I'm a bit unclear on the next steps to make them talk again, i ran a repair on the agents and that didn't resolve the problem.

How does one go about making the clients report back to the mother ship again?

SCE 2007 Uninstall

Hello everyone,

I recently uninstalled SCE 2007 but failed to run the "SCECertPolicyConfigUtility.exe /uninstall /managementgroup <servername>_MG" command prior to the uninstall. Can anyone tell me what this command does? Is there another mothod of doing what the command does? Will I see any problems in AD, GPO, etc if I can't run the command?

I attempted running the command after the uninstall (by restoring the SCECertPolicyConfigUtility.exe file) but i get the following error:
Failed to Configure Policy and Deploy Certs. hr = 80070002

The Policy "System Center Essentials All Computers Policy" is now showing "Not Found" in Group Policy. Could someone please tell how this policy was configured?

Finally, I can't seem to find "Application Error Reporting/Corporate Error Reporting" anywhere within group policy, any clues?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Alert subscription data source module was unable to find alerts that match the subscription because of database errors. Monitoring Disk Space

Hi

I am using a double threshold monitor to check my disk space, it used to work but for some reason it is now not

The lower value is set at 10 the upper at 15, it's set so that the "over upper threshold" is "ok", "between" is "warning" and "under lower threshold" is "critical"
This translates to <10% free space is critical, between 10 and 15% is warning, and above 15% is ok.

I have a few servers that are in all of the ranges - all of the "management status" shows "ok" - the monitor is "enabled"

So why aren't the servers that are showing as having <15% free space coming up as a problem?

The thing is it DID work a couple of months ago but I can't see why it isn't now, I have 13 servers 2 have active alerts for something else but the rest are showing no problems.

These machines are running XP Pro with 2 GB of memory. I wouldn't think memory should be a problem with this. It seems when I get rid of one error message, another arrives tight behind it. Dorsn't seem to be problems with the machines as much as problems with the agents and/or program.

Installing windows & and Server 2008 R2 Management packs fails

Hi Ive upgraded my SCE 2007 server to SUS SP2 and downloaded the windows 7 management packs however when I try to install them I get the following memory related SQL error. Please help, my install of SQL does not have any management tools to assist me in changing the DB size

Windows 7 Support??

I am just wondering when we will finally be able to roll out Windows 7? As it stands, the only thing preventing me from doing this company wide is Microsoft's lack of support for their own product. I can push out Windows 7, I just can't push any apps out to the the workstations because SCE doesn't support it yet. Do we at least have a general time frame for support?

We're looking to monitor our systems (TFS, Sharepoint, VMM, ... etc) and gather quantitative information, such as utilization and possibly traffic (web hits). Our objective is to show value, and growth of our systems over time. Reports running from an OLAP cube would be awesome....

I've looked into System Center, and System Center Essentials seems to be the closest fit. However, it also appears to be largely targeted at system admins for monitoring (!), configuration, and updates. So far, I've managed to setup a test system that can monitor and gather some useful info, but measuring the page hits / users / IIS stats eludes me. Can SCE do this (that you know of - easily)?

Am I using the wrong tool?

Does anything else exist for gathering and reporting on data?

Software deployment status reports incorrectly as not installed

The software deployment status reports that my clients need software ("computer needs software" - yellow warning), but when I open the report all packages that I deployed were successfully installed. I have waited a few weeks to se if the status changes, but it doesn't. I would appreciate any ideas what couold have caused this and how to solve it.

Transaction Log Full

Hi,

I'm having some strange recurring problem that I can't fix. Every week or so, I get the following error:

Database log file is full. Back up the transaction log for the database to free up some log space
The transaction log for database 'OperationsManager' is full. To find out why space in the log cannot be reused, see the log_reuse_wait_desc column in sys.databases

From the SQL management studio I can see that I have plenty of space free on both the log and the data files of my OperationsManager database. My LOG has 2GB allocated, and 1.9GB free. Data is 4 GB with 2.3 GB free. log_reuse_wait_desc (SELECT name, log_reuse_wait_desc FROM sys.databases) shows "NOTHING" for the all Operations Manager databases.

How can I fix this?

I'm trying to install service pack 1 for Sytem Center Essentials. I already removed the 3 packs as desribed in the download details, but I am unable to complete the setup. The log is showing me:

SCE07 auto discovery doesnt work

our setup (SCE Server):
win 2008 x32
SCE 07 SP1 installed fresh
SCE created GPO's and clients are applying this GPO

AD:
s2008 x64
AD under 2003 schema format
AD and DNS hosted on the same server.
single domain environment

client machines:
SCE-created GPO is applying
ranges from vista SP1 > windows 7 OS's.

if i scan for domain machines manually, SCE picks up the machines ok.
automatic discovery is set to occur every day at 9am, however it's been configured for auto discovery for atleast 1-2 weeks now and is not detecting machines at all.

im expecting around 60-70 domain connected machines to appear, but current state has been the manually-added 23 machines.

i am new to SCE, so it could be something really obvious, but from the initial setup wizards of SCE, everything should work fine 'out of the box'

After the upgrade to SP1 of SCE2007 we receive a lot of these alerts...

WMI Probe Module Failed Execution.

The details are almost everytime the same:

System Center Essentials Hardware Replacement

Our current System Center Essentials 2k7 Sp1 server is in poor health hardware wise. I want to rebuild on a new server without losing all of our settings and have to re-create the MG.

Does anyone have experiance with this and can give me a little insight?

How to setup SCE 07 to send an email notification when server is down

Hi-
Quick question - I've installed SCE07 on server and it is working fine. Even managed to create a custom report and setup Notification + Recipients + Subscriptions such that when a PC restarts, SCE would send a notification email to myself (restarting PC would create a new Event ID of 6009, which I setup in custom rule).
However, I just don't know how to setup another notification for a PC SHUTDOWN or lost of network connection( event ID 6009 would only be created when PC starts up). I do know that lost of network connection would create a heart-beat lost, which in turns create a event ID of 20022 in the event log > operations manager. I could setup the custom rule but notification email just wouldnt be sent.

If there any one out there with detailed steps or a simpler way to achieve this? Thanks

Software deployment stop working

Hi,

We met some problem with software deployement. Sometimes, the client did not seen the update we approved. We made some "wuauclt /detectnow" but nothing happened.
We used some group, one by service and another for the software we used in all servcie. So we have the client in two groups (or more) with software in deployement status.
Is ther some limitation for the group (number) ? A client can be a member of more than one group? What is the difference between the group made in the computers view and the group created in the Authoring view?

Agent deployment failing

I cannot deploy agents anymore. When I go to deploy agents I get this error "The MOM Server could not start the MOMAgentInstaller service on computer "example.computer.local" in the time." Error Code: 80070102. I think installing WSUS 3.0 SP2 broke this. I also installed some new management packs including the Windows client management pack. It could have been either one that broke it I suppose. I had a perfectly working SCE installation before this.

Since this is NOT working and is getting a show stopper for SCE, is there any fix/workaround or at least a time frame for that ?
