Unanswered Update Status showing missing updates that have been installed already

  • Thursday, November 19, 2009 12:07 PM

Nearly all of the test workstations I have under SCE 2010 management are showing missing updates when they have already been installed.

I am managing my workstation and looking at it in the console shows updates are missing. For example, KB971514 which I approved on Tues 17/11/2009 at 16:05.

If I look in Programs and Features / Installed Updates I can see KB971514 was installed on 18/11/2009.

The Detect Software and Updates task runs ok and returns Exit Code: 0

The WSUS console also shows my workstation as having the same set of updates missing. I looks like any updates from last patch Tuesday that have been pushed out via SCE 2010 / WSUS 3.2 are not registering as having been installed.

      Has Code
I cleared the WindowsUpdate.log on one of the machines and made SCE 2010 "Detect Software and Updates Now" and examined the log.

I see an exception being thrown: Cannot open database "SUSDB" requested by the login. The login failed. Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE'. in several places.

The full log is shown below. (server name masked to F.Q.D.N)

The NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE is a member of the public Server Role on the server\ESSENTIALS SQL Server.

Looking in the SUSDB\Security\Users container, NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE has webService Database role membership only.

right click SUSDB / Properties / Permissions

NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE Type = User, effective Permission = CONNECT.

I should add that I did not attempt anything special when installing, it was a click next, next, next install as far as was possible.

    Hello Ian,

Are you able to open database SUSDB now?

The error message you are getting is because of server error.

Please let us know if you are still seeing this issue and we would be happy to assist you.

    Thank you, Anshu
