Is there a way to set updates to automatically install on reboot?  I see download and notify, but I'd like to have a download and install on shutdown or reboot.  Or can you make this a default setting?  I'd like to set all downloaded installs to take place at reboot.   I was hoping for a way to set it with a GPO, but the options don't seem to quite make the grade.  The only other option I can see would be to put the updates in a wrapper, which would add significantly to the workload.

    Hi Harcus,

For this AU option "Auto Download and Notify for install.", the update will be automatically downloaded to client, and the user will see the yellow icon in the tool bar.

And the users can choose "Install updates and shutdown" when they try to shutdown the client, but this option will not appear when you try to reboot the client.

    Hi,

We don't have that option to be set in System Center Essentials. However, can I know more on what scenarios you are looking at? What do you want to achieve?

The systems can not be interrupted during use normal operation, they are hydraulic control systems.  We use to use sms to schedule the installs, but that is no longer an option due to some changes.  We were told the best option for our requirements was to use SCE, I won't get into details, but we're trying to recreate the same functionality that we had before.

    1)  Download approved updates without installing the update
    2)  After download notify the user that there is a update(s) ready for install
    3)  When the system is either shutdown or rebooted the install will be applied

We also plan to detect the systems user logged on state and reboot if not in use, we've already figured most of those details out, but need to be able to push and have updates applied.

As I said before this could be done with other methods, policies and/or wrappers but managing the number of patches needed by the systems one by one becomes unmanageable.

I'm wondering about the setting for WAU setting 3, "Auto Download and Notify for install."  Is there a way to use thiat setting and automatically set the downloaded installs to install on reboot or shutdown?
