CPU Fan - constantly runs at high speed

Just like the title says, my CPU fan is constantly at a high speed. It's loud and I haven't been able to figure out how to set it back to normal. It's a Dell Optiplex GX620. I swapped the power supply, re-imaged the hard drive, and flashed the BIOS to the latest version from dell's website. I looked through all the BIOS settings and logs and didn't find anything. I've asked every IT I know, and gone through a million forums with no real explainations or ideas to this issue. So far the best advice I've got is to turn it off. My theory is if I find the driver that controls the CPU fan and update it, the system won't see the CPU as overheating and it will return to normal. I'm close to just replacing the motherboard but thought I'd post something first. Anybody have an answer?

Can I setup roaming profiles on Windows 7 with a NAS?

I am going to setup Windows 7 (64-Bit) on 2 Desktops & 1 Laptop on my home network.
I have a Central Axis NAS connected. I would like to be able to use roaming profiles on the PC's and have the Home location of the profiles on the NAS. I know the Laptop will have to keep a temporary profile on it until it can reconnect to my network.
I currently have no roaming profiles setup yet on any PC.

Has anyone attempted anything like this?

This program hijacks the computer, performing false scans and detections, and offering to sell you antivirus software. I have Windows XP/SP2. I am unable to access any web site with Internet Explorer or MSN Explorer. I tried a Norton boot disk and launched a scan, but it was aborted after only 28 files. I tried to install Windows Defender, but the installation was aborted. I was able to run AdAware 1.05, and it got about halfway through a full system scan, identifying 2 registry faults and 45 infected files before that scan was aborted, and I am no longer able to open the program. What next? Erase and rebuild the hard drive?

cannot change mp4 video file icons in vista

i'm in the middle of putting some of my movies on my pc. i put them in mp4 format, and each movie icon shows up as the vlc media player orange and white cone.....how do i change the icon to show the movie image that the file is for?

i'm using vista home premium 64 bit on dell studio xps 435mt.

I have SATA Disk problems!!!
A description of the problem I am having.

I have a P5N-E SLI mother board with 3 drives.
One IDE as the C drive and two STAT disks. a Seagate
ST350032OAS connected to SATA #1 and a Maxtor
STM350032 connected to SATA #2 the OS names D & E.

forced to reinstall the Win 2K OS and SP4, I have
downloaded from the ASUS website JMB36X SATA
drivers and installed them (I have also tried the
drivers on the support CD that came with the MB
same problem).

The BIOS finds the disks and the OS finds them, The OS
disk management tool detects the disks shows the disk
size 465.76 GB, file type NTFS and declares them
"Healthy".

the device manager thinks all is well too and declares
them to be functioning correctly.

BUT when I try to explore disk D or E I get a error
message "D:\is not accessible Access is denied"
Also when I use the properties tool on the disks it
reports the file system unknown, used space and free
space as zero.

I have checked the FAQ and trouble shooting portion of the ASUS
web site nothing like the problem I am experiencing. I have tried
may permutations of the installation process and also tried other
operating systems XP and Vista same or worse result. I have been
searching the web, Microsoft and computing sites also posted my
problem so far no solutions.

I believe this to be a software problem and not hardware these disk
have been working reliably until my OS became to corrupt to use
and I had to reinstall. One small clue I remember being told to edit
a line in one of the win2k system to make the disks work but failed
to record this information. And I have not been able to find the source
again despite much searching.

Technical assistance from ASUS has been weak so far.
Seagate tech support via chat tried to figure it out but
but gave up.

I need to get these disk back in service even though I have backed
up the data on them there is still valuable data and I have work to
be done. I sure would like to get my disks back working again
can you help me find a way to fix this problem?

I am just beginnng to use outlook express 6.0. I have Windows XP 5.1and use WIFI in my apartment. It seems to send mail, but the receiver (me) doesn't receive it. I don't see a SENT message. When I try to view a message (in my hotmail account) using Outlook, I get a message: Outlook Express encountered an unexpected problem while displaying this message. Check your computer for low memory or low disk space and try again I have plenty of memory and disk space. I so far have no success with the troubleshooter. I can't view my 121 unread messages all together using hotmail, so I am hoping outlook has a way to do this. Thanks!

I use Windows Vista. I always use Picasa3 to edit my photos. Mysteriously, without any change on my computer, the application no longer opens. The start window appears and remains until I shut down the computer. I reinstalled the application but I kept my files fearing to lose every modification made. No change. This is most frustrating as I use Picasa daily.

This occasionally happens with other applications and I must re-start the computer but I have not been able to get in Picasa at all for a few days.

I use the computer with ease and manage well for light problems but I am not advanced in the very technical aspects. Please help.

Making a Sandbox for SharePoint

We currently using MOSS and would like to make a copy of the data and build a virtual server to be used as a sandbox. The MOSS application is on one server and the data is on another. My question is, “Once we build the virtual server, how can we make a copy and load it on the new sandbox?”

I'm not sure if I am just missing the driver for it after my computer crashed or if it's just busted. I won't take it out yet until I know I can't solve the problem without taking it out. What happens is I put in the CD, the light stays solid orange for a sec and shuts off. It will do this with any CD, even a non-burned music CD. Can I get any help with this?

I've read through the thread involving how to wake a virtual machine via LAN but it focuses on Hyper V. The company I work for is probably going to switch to a Virtual PC solution for many reasons but mainly costs of giving each user one computer per domain that we host. One of our domains uses Wake on LAN to install updates each night. Is there a way to implement a WoL solution for the virtual machine using Virtual PC?

So i have Windows Vista and i am running Windows media player 11. I have an Xbox 360 and I stream lots of my files through my computer to my xbox. I have DVDs that i have ripped from my dvd selection into AVI so that i can take them wherever as i can store them on my hard drive. Now I have a 42" LCD Flatscreen TV 1080P of course and whenever I stream these AVI files To my xbox (Special Edition Elite) I get really bad resolutions. Xilisoft Video Converter is what i am using and i Convert it using the reccomended setting. So i get an AVI file thats around 1 GB

Now my question is: Is there some way that i can increase the video quality? Like is there a plug in for media center that will increase it to a better file? OR can i buy a upconverting DVD player and try and stream the video through to the xbox, then from the xbox to the dvd player where it would be plugged into the TV to upconvert? Anything would be helpful. Thanks!

I'm brand new to Windows SBS 2008 and it is the first MS server I have used. I am brand new to this forum.

Question 1: Am I allowed to ask for advice to the following technical issue? If not, is there another forum I can pose this question to or is that not allowed on any MS forum.

I tried configuring a server backup just to see what it would do. The configuration fails. The only thing I changed from the defaults is the names of the backup drives. Using TechNet I found an error that didn't apply. I'm backing up about 26GB to 2 external hard drives that each have about 930GB available. However, this TechNet entry pointed me to SBCW.log.
