    Hi at all,

I installed SCVMM2012 RC with App Controller to try this software in my lab.

I have a problem with all my cloud lab created with scvmm2012.

If i set a resouce limit, like memory, disk, cpu, when i log on App Controller portal i see unlimited under "Current resource usage"

I can see how many resources i used, but not the maximum allocable (only unlimited)

If i try to deply a new VM over the limit of my cloud resource, i receive an error.

So, App Controll function right, but my college not have the a "visible" limit

    Anyone have the same problem?

    Thanks in advanced

    Fabio

On AppController overview page you see the most restrictive limit set at SCVMM User Role (Role level or Member level).

Note than if unset, then limit is shown as unlimited (that's what you've confiugred as the SCVMM User Role limit!)

In the other hand the error you are getting is related to the limits set to the specific Cloud you're trying to use for the VM deployment.
Cloud limits are not shown on AppController overview page.

So, the error you're getting is correct as you may have set the limits at Cloud level not on the User Role level ;)

    Hi Oscar,

    Thanks for your reply..

I attach an example of one of my cloud. All the cloud have resorces limit :(

This is a problem not for me but for my user. They try to deploy a VM and receive an error. Only in JOBs are able to view what happend.

Other problem like this is when try ou try to deploy a VM and choise a Cloud, you not see the resouce limit..

    Any idea?

    Thanks

Based on you comments, it looks you have 1 Cloud and 1 User role that is is assigned to that Cloud, correct?

If that's the case I would suggest you set the limits at the User role (Role/Member level) and not on the Cloud itself.

Note that the quota you see see under the Cloud is your user/use role quota, not the Cloud limits!

Note you may have a setup where you have multiple User Roles allowed deploy VMs on one shared Cloud, then you may want to setup limits Cloud level to avoid all User Roles exceeding you capacity. This makes hard to know how much resources from that Cloud are taking each specific user roles and how much resources are free for an specific User role because the members of that role don't know if advance the deployment plans from the other user roles.

In the other hand, you may have one User role having rights to deploy VMs on multiple Clouds, but you may want to restrict the amount of resources that User role can take from all the Clouds.

    Hope this helps! ;)

Ok, i tried to manage the configuration.

So, in the first time, i created a Cloud with resource limit, and later a role to manage this cloud and i saw that automacly this role had the resorce limit. In this role i put my users. This role is a SSP role that it is the unique way to see all the VM in that cloud for all user (if you edit the access for each VM..  )

In this cases i see unlimited resouce.

So, i tried to remove the resouce limit from the Cloud, but not from the Role. I insert the maximim resource limit for the single user in the role the same value for all the role (each user must be able to use all the resouce)... and.. the limit appair! i can see the maximum value of resource can i able ti use.

Thanks! ( i don't know if the double quota ( cloud + role ) not like to scvmm 2012 )

So for each user that access to Appcontroller, not see the real resorce available in the cloud but the limit for each user.

In whitch way a user can see the resource used from the other user in the same role or all the available?

    Any idea?

    Thanks

Keep in mind you don't see the Cloud quota form App Controller, you always see the User/ User Role quota usage  ;)

You see the information you have right to. If you are a User Role member you can see that role information, but you can not see other users/roles.

SCVMM2012 is really flexible about the setups you can achieve.

Maybe having all these users on the same User Role provides the information you need (shareing limits information based on the resources they are taking)

To share the VMs you have deployed with other users, edit its properties and go to the Access tab, there you can set the User Role as owner to get it shared with the rest of that role members.

I'm seeing this same issue and believe it is most likely above. I don't think Oscar's explanation is hitting on the problem. I have set up a new Cloud with a new user role assigned to this cloud. I then set quotas on several items. However, there is no indication in App Controller for the users in this role that any such quota exists.

    Here's what it looks like:

    1. In VMM console within the properties of the cloud, configure specific capacities below the limits.

    Capacity in Cloud Properties

    2. Still in VMM console, opening up the assigned user role properties, we see these values reflected as "Assigned Quota" in both Role level and Member level quotas. So far so good.

Due to apparent 2 image per post limit (why?), continued in next post...

    Continued:

    3. Opening App Controller as a member of this role, we see an apparently unlimited capacity available on the Overview page. (Note only 1 cloud available: the one defined above). There can't be any other cloud contributing to the usage totals.

    4. And in the App Controller Clouds page, we see Unlimited capacities listed again:

Is this not a bug? Is there something else that needs to be configured to allow a self service user to be shown the quotas that apply to him? Thanks,

    Noah

I should have mentioned that this behavior is seen with Update Rollup 2.

@Noah Try unchecking "use maximum" in user quota, i think it prevents displaying the effective quota in AppC, because SCVMM seem to use "unlimited" instead of "cloud quota" when you leave it checked.

Thanks Arthur. Unchecking "Use Maximum" in the VMM user role properties does in fact cause the behavior to change on this, as follows:

    1. Unchecking "Use Maximum" from Role Level Quotas

    - Overview page in AppController still displays "unlimited" as maximum under cloud resource usage.

    - Cloud page in AppController shows intended quotas in the Virtual Machines, CPU, Memory, and Storage columns

    2. Unchecking "Use Maximuum" from Member Level Quotas

    - Overview page in AppController shows intended quotas in the Virtual Machines, CPU, Memory, and Storage columns

    - Cloud page in AppController shows intended quotas in the Virtual Machines, CPU, Memory, and Storage columns

So this seems like this could be configured as a workaround, but still seems to be a bug to me. It doesn't make sense that "unlimited" should appear as the maximum resources when there are in fact a limit configured on those resources. Moreover, the maximums should reflect the "Available Capacity" as shown in the user role properties when "Use Maximum" is selected--because that's the available capacity. Isn't that what the overview page and cloud page are supposed to be showing, i.e. how much you're using and how much you have left?

Thx for detailing your results. ( you should edit 1. Unchecking -> Checking).

I don't know if this is working as intended, but if it does, they need to add some explanations to help us catch the logic behind it.
