hi guys we have  a scvmm2012 where we set up a service template for 2 tier web server + NLB

we set up logical networks, mac address pools, load balancers (nlb microsoft) and a vip templates for port 80

    here what we have

    https://skydrive.live.com/#cid=E883A4B81CA9B210&id=E883A4B81CA9B210!691

    https://skydrive.live.com/#cid=E883A4B81CA9B210&id=E883A4B81CA9B210!692

when I deploy it saves each virtual machine at c:\ directory on each hyper-v host server (that is a hyper-v cluster)

how can I deploy that vms (web server) to be settle at C:\ClusterStorage\SHV103_Disk_VHD01\Virtual Machines

WE couldn´t setup our storage at SCVMM2012 because the SMI-s agent failed on it.

If you don't mark Your VM as "Highly Available", VMM will try to Place them on local disks during deployment. When you mark Your VM for HA, VMM will Place them on a CSV based on what`s available in the particular cluster.

You`ll find this option on the hardware settings on Your VMs.

    Kristian,
I am having this same or similar issue: "update placement or determine an appropriate host for this virtual machine and try the operation again" but my VM is not marked as Highly Available. My Hyper-V Servers are clustered but shouldn't I be able to still deploy a non-highly available VM from a Service Template?

Robert and Kristian, the problem I got was solved thank you so much.

Now I´m facing with a boring problem were after deploying a 2 tier web farm with nlb

    http://technet.microsoft.com/library/hh335098.aspx

the vms are deployed ok but the nlb is beeing configured only on the 1st vm

    any ideas?

Robert: you should specify available paths for placements on Your hosts prior to this, so that VMM will find an alternative path if the vm is not marked for HA.

Thiago: did the service deployment fail? If so, can you logon to Your VM and Complete the setup? (add the VM to the NLB cluster), and 'repair' the service deployment?

All of this relies on network communication (DNS-name) between the VMM server and the VM, so if you cant Reach the VM during deployment, this will fail.

    Hi Kristian,

Looks like the reason this was failing for me is I did not notice the NIC settings in the designer were showing Static IP, once I changed this to Dynamic the Service Template succeeded.

    Thanks!

Kristian, the deploy doesn´t fail it complete ok

and after I can finish the nlb configuration on the other nodes without problems as you can see here https://skydrive.live.com/#cid=E883A4B81CA9B210&id=E883A4B81CA9B210!696

when you say that i can reach the vm I think it´s possible because the DNS record was created after the VM deployment , right? where´s the error on it´s step?

unable to open the links you provide, but which load balancer are you using, and have you defined a VIP template, using a dedicated IP from your network fabric as part of the deployment?

I had such a problem, can you then go in and configure it manually on the second?

I could and I never found a solution that would reliably work, I put it down to something at the switch level possibly. Anyway I went instead and used Citrix Netscalers and they work a treat. they even officer free, small and large versions. took alot of pain out of web server deployment.

If you still have issues with NLB I would be tempted to open a case as I wasted so many hours trying to get it working for deployment.
