I have a request to rename a virtual machine. I know that to do this I should rename within the guest. The question I have is: if I rename the VM, how will this name change affect the naming of the vhd file? Will the
vhd filename change? If not, how do I change the vhd filename so that both are consistent?
You need to put the VM in stop state (either in VMM or hyperV). The deployed vhd for the VM will be generally under Programdata\Microsoft\Windows\Hyper-V\<VMName>. Rename your VHD to what you like. In HyperV UI go tot he Settings on the VM and rename
the .vhd file name under Media in the IDE controller section.
