We currently have SCVMM with a local version of SQL Express running on a physical server. This manages our Virtual environment.
We want to install SCVMM on a new server and use a dedicated SQL 2008 server for the database.
    Can we do the following:
    1. Uninstall SCVMM & SQL Express from its current location.
    2. Install SCVMM on the new server and point / create its new DB on the SQL 2008 server.
Will this automatically discover the VMs running on the physical hosts once the hosts are added to the new SCVMM installation.

    What steps are required.

    Thank you,

    Doug

    Hi Doug,

No, it will not automatically discover the VMs running on the hosts.
Because you are creating a new database with new installation. You have to re-add the Hyperv Hosts to SCVMM.
As old agent is installed on the Hyper-V hosts, you may have to re-install agents on the servers.

Then it will discover the VMs.
