Unable to install Visio 2010 with Office 2007

I am running windows 7 on a 32 bit machine with Office 2007 and trying to install Visio 2010. However; during the setup I get the following error message:
"An Office 2003 installation on your computer is corrupted and setup cannot continue. Remove or repaire the Office 2003 product and re-run setup"
Do I need to remove my office 2007 before installing Visio? Can I re-install Office after installing the Visio?

its not like that the complete office 2003 is installed however it will not let you continue untill even a small component of 2003 remains installed on your machine. you need to check back and remove every office component, tool , program, pack which can be related to office 2003.

It took some time, but I took my VPC with Office 2003 and upgraded the Visio 2003 to Visio 2007 and FrontPage 2003 and Visio 2007 seem to work together.

Hi,
It is better to remove the Office 2003 and Office 2007 programs completely. Then, install Office 2007. Then, install Visio 2010.
We can click the Fix it button in this Microsoft Knowledge base article to uninstall the previous Office program is it was installed:
How do I uninstall Office 2003, Office 2007 or Office 2010 suites if I cannot uninstall it from Control Panel?

Thank you for your response; however; Office 2003 is not installed on this PC. Why is the Visio 2010 wrongly identifying the office 2007 as a 2003 install? Is Visio 2010 not compatable with the Office 2007?

Hi Sally;
I am still getting the same error message; even after removing the Office 2007 with the link you provided. What shall I do now in order to install Visio 2010?

Found what the issue was with the Visio 2010; it had nothing to do with the MS Office. The new version has an issue with older version (Visio 2003). The program will not upgrade or override the previous version. One has to remove the privious version before installing.
Thanks for your help

Friday, July 30, 2010 1:45 AMI'm getting the same error message with Visio2010. Visio 2003 is not installed. The only thing on the computer somewhat related to Office 2003 is FrontPage2003, which is working fine and I am still using so can't uninstall. Can Visio 2010 not be installed with FrontPage resident?

Friday, July 30, 2010 4:55 AMUninstalling FrontPage is not an option. It is a critical application in regular use. It was a standalone purchase and not part of Office. MS Office 2003 has never been installed. I wish I would have known in advance that FrontPage and Visio 2010 will not coexist. I guess Visio 2010 is going back.

Why dont you trying upgrading front page to 2007 or start using expression web successor of front page or start using visio in a VM environment if you intend to use it ocassionaly

Friday, July 30, 2010 5:37 AMI don't think there is a FrontPage 2007. If there was I would certainly consider that upgrade. Expression Web would be a very involved change. I maintain several FrontPage generated websites, some quite large.

As you know there is no FrontPage 2007, the upgrade path was to Expression. Since I have not had a chance to upgrade some of my sites to Expression, I am running Office 2003 with Visio 2003 and FrontPage 2003 inside a Virtual PC. I have other VPCs set up to run other versions of Office and Visio. As a consultant, there is no guarantee what version of Office or Visio they are running.
So using a Virtual PC for your FrontPage 2003 may be a solution for you.
