Has anyone from Microsoft resolved the issue where the thumbnail of a docx file causes Windows Explorer memory to go through the roof when you do the following:
1. Make sure in the folder option thumbnail viewing is enabled.
2. Save any word document in the new docx format and while saving check the Save a thumbnail option.
3. Go to the folder where you have saved your word file. And make sure that atleast Medium Icons display is selected.
4. As soon as you do that there is a memory leak in explorer.exe and high CPU usage. Explorer.exe uses almost 97% of the available 2GB of RAM when it tries to display the thumbnail. Thanks,
Walt

Wednesday, April 04, 2012 11:59 AMI just tried this and my CPU usage did spike but it was only for about 1 second and then it went back to normal. The memory went up from 2.1 used to 2.3 used then back to 2.1 used. Does the CPU use stay high? Or does it go down after a bit?
