Windows 7 x64 and SharePoint Explorer View
-
Wednesday, October 21, 2009 2:54 PMWe are running an SSL enabled portal with MOSS 2007, SP2 (v12.0.0.6421) on Server 2003 SP2 (x86), and SQL2005 SP2 (x64). I have 1 PC loaded with Windows 7 x64 and a 2nd PC loaded with Windows 7 x86.
From my x64 PC, I have tried using both the 64-bit IE8 browser and the 32-bit IE8 browser to access Sharepoint. I am unable to open any document libraries in "Explorer View" or with "Actions > Open in Windows Explorer" from either version of the browser. I always get a message stating: "Your client does not support opening this list with Windows Explorer."
From my x86 PC, I am able to use both "Explorer View" and "Actions > Open in Windows Explorer" from IE8.
Does anyone know why this does NOT work from the 32-bit or 64-bit IE on my x64 system?
Thanks!

You may refer the following article.

So, is IE8 32-bit not fully supported as a level 1 browser on a 64-bit OS?
From the article, I see IE8 32-bit listed as a level 1 browser and it does work properly from my 32-bit OS, but not from my 64-bit OS. Has anyone else tried this and had this problem with an SSL enabled Sharepoint site?
Thanks,

Amy,
I am having a similar problem using Windows 7 and Sharepoint 3.0. Document libraries are not displayed on W7 computers within the browser, but "sometimes" they will open in a Windows Explorer window (not EI window). Windows says that this is the intended action w/ W7. I find that really hard to believe and have been searching for a better answer. Did you ever get a solution to your issue? I think it is a sim problem. -

So far, I haven't found any answers to this. Here is my experience with this problem (give that all 32-bit workstations experience full operations with the Sharepoint Server, I don't see a need to list its specs here - it has to be a workstation problem):
Workstation 1: 32-bit Windows XP SP3, IE8 (32-bit).
Workstation 2: 64-bit Windows XP SP2, IE8 (32-bit) and IE8 (64-bit).
Workstation 1 works without any problems opening a File Store from our SharePoint sites (does use SSL) using the Windows Explorer view. Using the same SharePoint folder, Workstation 2 doesn't do anything from within the 32-bit browser, no errors - nothing. It's like it loops back on itself to the IE display. The 64-bit browser doesn't even give the option to open the folder in Windows Explorer view (which I gleaned from the link provided by Arthur Xie above. The SharePoint URL root (www.domain.com) is in the Intranet site listings in the IE options.
Has there been any progress on this problem?
Thanks in advance,
Ken

Hi Amy,
I have a very similar type of environment, and issue. Did you find any solutions to getting Windows7 x64 and IE8 x86 explorer view to work?
Thanks so much, Casey!

Hi All
Oddly you actually need to disable the Web Dav client on Win 2008 R2 OS to allow Windows Explorer browsing.
