Vista has a utility to convert bkf files from Windows XP Backup into Vista by turning on the Removable Storage Management feature.  It does not appear to be in the Windows 7 beta or is there another method to convert these backup files into Windows 7?

This http://www.vistaclues.com/restore-files-from-a-windows-xp-bkf-file-in-vista/ should work. Just don't try to use Ntbackup to backup anything.

This feature might not be supported at this time.  As it is only a Beta and changes will still be made to the OS.  When it goes final features like this will be more utilized and functional than right now.

I have the same problem. I use windows XP-32/64 and I regulerly use XP backup for weekly full backup and daily incremental back.  I also backed up my system using XP backup before installing windows 7 and now I can't recover my backups using windows 7.  :(

It seems like a the backup utility is an afterthought in vista and windows 7.  I still like xp backup program and I sure hope MS would have a solution to restore bkf files by the time Window 7 is realeased. :(

    Thanks

    Hi All,

Microsoft is aware of the need for customers to be able to restore files backed up by Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 (specifically .BKF files created by ntbackup.exe) to Windows Vista and Windows 7. A free tool is available here to restore .BKF files using Vista and Windows  Server 2008.  The ability to restore .BKF files to Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 will be supported after the general availability of these products in late October.

    Hope it helps.

    Robinson and Kim,

You are indicating that there will be a solution.  Some of us are really looking forward to a solution.  Are there any timeframes around a solution at this time?
