    win 7 ultimate 64
    i 7 950 6 gigs ram
    standard programs: office 2007 firefox

I get fairly frequent error listed below.

Wondering if it is about adobe reader not compatible with win 7 64 in preview pane.

    thanks in advance.

What version of adobe are you using?
I guess a way to find out if adobe is causing this issue is to preview an adobe file and immediately check the event viewer.

However the fault module is  MSPST32.DLL - This suggest its an outlook issue.
What version of outlook are you using?

You can refer to http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/default.aspx and check if your application would work on Win 7 64bit.

    office 2007 (latest updates)
    adobe 9.x (latest updates)

my suspicion is that both are "implicated."

just patched the registry -- following instruction here: http://www.pretentiousname.com/adobe_pdf_x64_fix/index.html

prior to the patch couldn't preview .pdf files.

    now i can.

could that inability to preview, in both windows explorer and outlook reading panes, be at the root of the problem??

    thanks for the answer.

strangely i just got another preview host error this morning just after i read your e-mail.

can't figure it out.  comes and goes and system doesn't crash. don't notice the errors when working

my ultimate 64 system (i7 950 6 megs . . . ) gets infrequent but consistent errors: Com Surrogate; Windows Search Protocol Host; preview handler surrogate

just installed office 2010 beta w/o incident

is this system teething to be fixed by sp1 or can someone come up with solutions now

my software is all standard stuff

     Proposed Answer

    Hi ,

I feel ,some system files may have got corrupted(including Prevhost.exe).A good step to take would be to run the System File Checker Utility (SFC). This will scan your computer to make sure that core system files are not corrupt and will try to repair if it finds any. To perform a SFC /Scannow, please follow the steps:

    1.       Click on “Start”

    2.       Type “cmd” and right click on “cmd” under programs and select “Run as administrator”

    3.       In the command prompt window please type the following. “sfc /scannow”(without quotation marks).

After  completion of these steps, let us know if you still get any errors.

    Thanking You,

    Saraga Mala
