    I have a question,

I recently took delivery of my new Dell, which came with the 32bit version of Windows 7, however the PC is capable of running at 64bit.

If I install Windows 7 32bit twice would that make it 64bit?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi fwitt,

Install Windows 7 32-bit twice would not make it 64-bit…

The terms 32-bit and 64-bit refer to the way a computer's processor (also called a CPU), handles information. The 64-bit version of Windows handles large amounts of random access memory (RAM) more effectively than a 32-bit system. If you are currently running a 32-bit version of Windows, you can only perform an upgrade to another 32-bit version of Windows. Similarly, if you are running a 64-bit version of Windows, you can only perform an upgrade to another 64-bit version of Windows.

If you want to move from a 32-bit version of Windows to a 64-bit version of Windows, you'll need to back up your files and then perform a Custom installation of the 64-bit version of Windows. For more information, see Installing and reinstalling Windows.

If you have any questions, please feel free to let us know.

    Regards,

    Linda

    Dear Fwitt,

There was three women walking down the street (one licking an ice cream cone, another biting a sandwish and the third one just doing some sight seeing)  and two guys were watching them. the first one asked the second, which one is the married one.

the guy answered the one licking an ice cream ......

the second answered, Good Thinking, but the married one is the one having a ring.

I liked your way of thinking fwitt but this does not work .......

    hi fwittt,

kindly give us your dell specs...

cost if you're using 4 gb of ram or higher now...

you can absolutely install a 64 bit win7...

however, your 32 bit win7 can only use 2gb of your ram...

you can notice this on your system property...

you installed 4gb of ram or higher but it display/using only 2gb of ram...

now is the time to install 64 bit win7...

to use the full potencial of your 4gb or higher ram...

Not entirely true... system can still address about 3.49 GB of the 4.00 GB installed capacity, but yes, it is unable to take full advantage of the system resources. I just did this for a system using 32-bit windows 7 and the "system score" improved from a 2.2 to 3.7 with the memory and cpu performance doubling.

That was the most amazing thread that I have found since I started replying on Technet forums.

Even on Facebook, that is starting to get spread. Link to it: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=300909059939654&set=a.199799043383990.50768.197812326915995&type=1&theater

Anyway, upgrading from a 32 Bit OS to a 64 bit one is not supported. You have to perform a clean install using a Windows 7 64 install media.

Since you already have 32 bit inside, Take a 64 Bit CD, cut it into half and throw the half piece into the CD-ROM. you will get 64 Bit.

    Dear Mr. Fwitt,

Install 32 bit four times and u get a 128-bit computer. This is more powerful.

The last time i read, MSFT is still working on it, so u might actually create history.

A 128-bit architecture would be capable of using as much RAM as there is data on earth, estimated to be about 2^70 bytes, or 1.2 zettabytes.

    So, there u go..

Sure, just put in a 32 bit Windows 7 CD, and boot up, when it asks for upgrade or custom, choose upgrade, then select the option that says upgrade 32+32=64bit edition. Simple enough, done this many times.

Actually most of this is true, but everyone is leaving 1 very important detail:  You need to have at least a dual-core processor, one core for each instance of Windows 7 32.  A quad core would be better since you could allocate 2 cores per each instance.  Also be sure you have adequate cooling for your tower.  You may need to add an extra fan or two since it will be twice as fast.

You have to be careful doing the install this way. I tried it once and the second install crashed halfway through and I only ended up with a 48bit version of Windows. I had to make my 64bit office install crash 3/4 of the way to get a 48 bit version that would be compatible, but it doesn't run as well as the full 64bit versions.

GUYS IF ITS A JOKE THEN JUST LAUGH, IF ITS IGNORANCE PLS DON'T MOCK FWITT.  Don't forget there was a time we all didn't even know how to wipe our behinds.

Thank God for giving Only Humans (out of 1.8 million discovered species) the chance & capability to learn all this Technology, but still our knowledge will be never equal to HIS.

Should God be laughing at our ignorant foolish ways?

Marvel at the works of God who created us, because Human DNA is the most complex programming code ever known to us. Scientists say even one strand decoded would pile up books written from Earth to Moon.

Since we know about computers, we understand that no matter how sophisticated the CPU Design or any component in a computer; it is all but dead mass unless we make it alive with an Operating System. The same is with our body and only the spirit makes it alive, not our brain because it’s the CPU. Spirit is the code that uses the brain to process the desired outcome; it is you who make decision not the brain.

All those who say there is no God is such an ignorant notion; all this sophisticated complex design that we understand and call science is work of Some Designer.  What if 10000 years from now AI robots say there were no humans who created us and start finding foolish answers from Evolution Theory?

    Hi Fwitt

<Serious> Be aware there is no way to upgrade your OS from 32bit to 64bit... This will mean you would lose all settings and all application will need to be re-installed. That being said there if you only have 4gb ram there is not many reason why you would want to upgrade to 64bit.</Serious>

<side note>While i appreciate that this may not be funny for you... the quesiton did make me smile as it is similar to asking if paining a blue wall the same colour blue will make it look like a darker shade of blue... </side note>

You say above: "put in a 32 bit Windows 7 CD, and boot up, when it asks for upgrade or custom, choose upgrade, then select the option that says upgrade 32+32=64bit edition". Now in doing this, (1) do I use the same product Key? (2) Do I have to pay for this option upgrade? (3) Am I going to lose whatever material I have on the 32bit when this option of the upgrade goes through? (4) As for the drivers, "do they get updated and is there any problems for this to happen through the windows update feature in windows 7?

There is a problem with upgrading Windows 32 bit to 64 bit by installing it twice. If you are using it for any wordprocessing applications including Word, Powerpoint, Access and Excel, the alphabet generator in the computer gets overloaded because two operating systems are demanding double the number of lettering to stick on to the inside of your monitor screen.

Recent tests have shown that even with moderate use, a successfully hacked 64 bit installation done by joining two 32bit installations together results in the letter "e" running out. You either have to wait about 90 seconds for more "e" letters to be manufactured by the alphabet generator or alternatively, save a whole page of "e" letters on a USB stick and copy and paste them into your document as you need them.  In extreme instances, it's been reported that the letter "t" can also be depleted by using this hack. It has even been reported in some forums that the alphabet generator has overheated and has burnt out or has caused other damage to the insides of the PC. As all us PC experts know, alphabet generators are difficult to find. There is also the thorny issue of the internal monitor wipers.  These are wipers that are fitted inside your monitor, that are used when you hit the backspace key to remove the letters that have been stuck on. They too can end up being overladed if you join up two 32 bit systems and they are expensive to replace as it requires specialist heavy duty hammers to fix them with.

So, fwitt, my suggestion is to stay with 32 bit, unless you are using your pc for heavy graphics / video processing, you won't need the extra kick from 64 bit and you will be safe in the knowledge that the alphabet generator will be working reliably as well as the internal lettering wipers in your screen.
