The native windows 7 drivers for my Officejet 5780 printer only work if the printer is attached to the PC. I have two PCs with Win 7 and one of them has the printer attached and shared.

Now, from PC1 (printer attached) the driver works great, prints, scans and settings load fine.

On PC2 (printer added over the network) I can print but can't get to the settings page, I get two errors when clicking on the preferences tab:

    C:\Windows\system32\rundll32.exe

Function address 0x654f9f78 caused a protection fault. (exception code 0xc0000005)

Some or all property page(s) may not be displayed.

    Then this error:

    Operation could not be completed.

Can someone help me with this?

    Thanks in advanced.

    Willy.

    Hi,

This issue can occur by incompatible printer driver or corrupted system files. To troubleshoot the issue, please perform the following steps.

    1. Clear the network printer driver

    a. Click Start menu and open "Devices and Printers" on the problematic machine.

    b. Select your network printer and click "Print server properties" on the folder menu. If the properties cannot be accessed, please let me know.

    c. Click "Drivers" tab and remove the driver for the network printer.

    d. Please also remove the network printer icon in "Devices and Printers" window.

    e. Open the following folder on the host machine and copy the win32spl.dll

    C:\Windows\System32

    f. Then please paste the win32spl.dll file to the same folder (C:\Windows\System32) on the problematic machine.

    g. Reinstall the network printer again.

If the issue persists, please proceed to the next steps.

    2. Clear Printer Spooler files and enable the spooler service

    a. Click Start, type "Services.msc" (without the quotation marks) in the open box and click OK.

    b. Double-click "Printer Spooler" in the Services list.

    c. Click Stop and click OK.

    d. Click Start, type "%WINDIR%\system32\spool\printers" in the open window, and delete all files in this folder.

    e. Click Start, type "Services.msc" (without the quotation marks) in the open box and click OK.

    f. Double-click "Printer Spooler" in the Services list.

    g. Click on Start. In the Startup Type list, make sure that "Automatic" is selected and click OK.

What's the result? If the error persists, please upload the picture to Skydrive (www.skydrive.live.com) for research.

    Thanks,

    Novak
