A. First of all, is this new installation or the older one?
B. What did you do before this phenomenon appeared?
C. Set the booting option that logs the boot and reveal here your findings (or save the log in cloud repository - SkyDrive)

Hi,
Did you successfully delete the files in C:\windows\system32\config\TxR? Please check again.
Also, when Search service stops, is there any error message created in Event Log? If there is, please post the detailed info here.

-This is an existing install (about 18 months old)
-Nothing occured that we can pinpoint anyhow just prior to this happening
-The event log error generated is: Event 7031: The windows search service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this x times. The following corrective action will be taken in 30000 milliseconds: restart the service.
- error message on the screen is "The windows search service on local computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs.
- we eventually were able to delete the files noted above, but they returned immediately (before a service restart/reboot/etc..)

Rebooted in 'Clean Boot mode' as per this KB - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/331796
Still unable to start the service.
Tried to install adplus, was told I needed .net 4.0, tried to install .net 4 and that installation failed.

Hi,
Adplus is a tool provided by Windbg, please install windbg and you will find it in Windbg installation directory.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/286350
If it still cannot be installed, navigate to TEMP folder and try to find out windbg msi installation file and install Windbg alone.
