Answered Reactivate?

My last install of Windows 7 was August 22 2012. I noticed this evening those little keys in my taskbar and found that it is no longer activated.

It says I have 2 days to activate.

Any ideas where this came from?

It looks as if you've just updated your BIOS?

If so, it could be that which has triggered the activation request - it shouldn't be a problem.

    telephone activation (operator calls)

    Click on the Start button

    in the Search box, type

    SLUI   4

    and hit the Enter key

follow the instructions, but when asked which service you require by the telephone ansafone, do NOT reply - this should force an operator to respond, who can deal with you

Well I called and got reactivated. The operator also told me from now on I will have to do this if I reinstall Windows.

My question is why? Its a retail copy. I thought hardware changes (or in this case a simple bios update) were ok for retail.

    Thanks for the tip Noel.

Hardware changes are OK - that doesn't mean that they don't cause the occasional problem :)

It's my belief that you shouldn't have to use telephone activation again anyhow, unless you make further changes to the hardware, or reinstall/re-activate too often.

If you're in the habit of clean-installing the system every few months, it's a lot easier and quicker to restore an image of the updated and activated system than to do a full re-install. I suggest that you look into the alternative methids of making an image of such a system.
