BSOD when transferring files to external HDD
-
Monday, August 06, 2012 8:16 AMHi all,
This is my first post and hoping someone can shed some light, as I don't know much about computers
I have a Toshiba ultrabook Z830 running windows 7 home premium 64bit (came pre-installed), I've had it for two months.
It was working great but lately I've been getting the BSOD lot, I noticed it only seems to happen when I'm transferring data to my external hard drives (WD 1 TB & Seagate 2 TB - it happens using both of them). I doesn't occur when surfing the net, playing music, etc.
When I transfer data it will generally get to halfway, then freeze for a minute or so and then I get the BSOD. I managed to take a photo:
Is this caused by a virus or something? I've have AVG pro and Malwarebytes and nothing shows up when I run both programs.
Any help you can offer in solving this problem would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks,
Jeremy

This is IT professional forum. Some knowledge is expected. Better place is answers.microsoft.com.
Here is response to similar problem from Answers (MS support Meghmala):
The error code KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR STOP: 0x0000007Astates that the requested page of kernel data from the paging file could not be read into memory. It appears that there are some issues with the hard disk.Use check disk command for any errors on hard disk -
Warning: Microsoft does not recommend interrupting the CHKDSK process. Microsoft does not guarantee the integrity of the disk if the CHKDSK program is interrupted. For safety you can back up your data before using the check disk command.
Use the check disk commands as follows:
1. Click Start.
2. In search window type 'cmd' and ENTER. Right click and select 'Run as administrator'.
3. Type at the command prompt CHKDSK /P and press ENTER to scan the disk.
4. Then type CHKDSK C: /F /R and press ENTER to repair corrupt sectors, if there are any.NOTE: The root drive has to be C: and the command may schedule a task at the system startup, if it does, then press Y to schedule a task and restart the computer to perform chkdsk.
Once chkdsk completes, boot to the desktop and then check. You may refer to the below mentioned link for more details -

Hi Jeremy,
Regarding the error code 0x0000007, you can refer to Bug Check 0x7A: KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR.
To check the this issue, please locate the dump file in the \Windows\Minidump folder and upload it so that we can analyze it. Before we could get your Minidump files, you can check following:
1. Run “chkdsk /f” to detect HDD issues2. Run Memory Diagnostics Tool from System Recovery Options.
3. Check whether this issue occurs without this external HDD
Hope this helps
