This happens almost every time I log in to the computer. The start button opens but most of the icons for the programs show up but do not have the embelm (they all look white next to the program name). Even when I try to open anything like my documents or any icons on the desktop, I can't. Finally it says that microsoft windows 7 is not responding and i should end the process. The internet connection also does not show up, as well as, as the sticky notes. Can you please help me? I checked online to see if others had issues too like this and found some people using services.msc and go and change some settings. Is that the right procedure? I have full antivirus protection and have no viruses on my computer. Thanks.

You might want to try this first.

The other thing you can do is boot off the Win 7 install DVD and do a "repair" install to see if that fixes the O/S. You will not loose any data by doing a "repair" install

What anti-virus software is installed? Your description of the problem could easily be an indication of a malware infestation notwithstanding your expressed confidemce in your security software.

Proposing solutions without having any real idea of the nature of the problem is as helpful as looking for a pin in a haystack. If you can access the desktop and access the tools provided with Windows then we can look for clues to help us know more precisely the nature of the problem.

Type System Information in the Search Box above the start Button and press the ENTER key. Select File, Export and give the file a name noting where it is located. Please upload to your Sky Drive, share and post a link here.

Please upload and share copies of your System and Application logs from your Event Viewer to your Sky Drive and post a link here.

To access the System log select Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer, from the list in the left side of the window select Windows Logs and System. Place the cursor on System, select Action from the Menu and Save All Events as and give the file a name. Do the same for the Applications log.

    Hope this helps, Gerry
