Destination Path Too Long Error
-
Friday, September 17, 2010 12:40 AMI am running Win 7 64X,,, my problem might be like the other problems,, "Destination Path Too Long",, but I am not sure.. I have mulitple hard drives, internal and external, all show up as "NTFS" file systems. After reading some of the other posts though, I wanted to try and isolate the problem,,, on each drive I created a new folder,, right on the root of the drive,, and tried to name it "ABC", I still got this message "Destination Path Too Long",, it tells me to either shorten the file name or try a location that has a shorter path. I am not sure how I can get any shorter names or paths,, unless some program re-wrote the path and added whatever to the path.. Please be patient with me (speak slower) ,, I am not a programmer,, Any help would be greatly appreciated.. Thank you..

hi! i haven't encounter this problem but if you'll allow me, i'd like to help.
when did this started and do you recall if you have installed anything before having this problem?
its best if we start scanning your computer for some Malware please download and run prevX 3.0
http://www.cesabarre.com/2010/08/prevx-30.html
This is a lightweight software and it scans real fast once done, please tell me if you have search results.

Thank you for the response,, I have real fears about what I load on my computer,, I apologize.. I have had a few bad experiences in the past. I even try to stay away from sites that are to commercialized for that reason... After doing a search of your handle and software, and watching some you tube videos, I felt a little easier about loading it...
I believe this started happening when I un-installed a few programs...
Anyway, I loaded and ran the program and it came up as "System Status: Clean"...

good, have you tried system restore?
-
Friday, September 17, 2010 11:05 PMWell no I have not tried system restore yet,,, I did notice a difference,, I was able to make a directory from the command prompt, c:\mkdir z:\abc, and it showed up in windows explorer, but I tried to make a new folder in win explorer,, right click,, new folder,, and it makes a new folder,, it just will not allow me to name it and keeps the name "new folder"...

Hi,
Thanks for the post!
According to my understanding, your multiple hard drives encounter the same problem is failing on creating a new folder and getting the “Destination Path Too Long Error” message.
Please refer to this thread: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itprogeneral/thread/00493939-079c-481b-9999-a82ac680dcab , follow the answer to delete the Application Data to see if it works.
In addition, please also try Clean Boot and create a new user account to see if it works.
Hope it helps!
Best Regards,
Miya Yao
