How to get Touch Pack for Windows 7 for my Multitouch enabled tablet?

It's a mystery - I can read all about the package on blog and videos, but I cannot find a way to download it on my Dell XT2 tablet with multitouch.

Does anybody know how I can try out (and show off) these demo applications?

Hello everyone.

I've just installed Windows 7 on my HP Compaq nc6000, and i really like the result. Much better than XP if you ask me.

Everything is working well except the video. When i watch videos in full screen it looks like its going on low FPS, very laggy...

I guess its because of the missing video driver... but i'm not really sure. I got the newest DirectX, and everything is okay, except i cant find a driver for my graphics.

Im sorry for my bad english, if anyone know how to solve this problem i would really appreciate it, i tryed download the driver from HP's site, it just says that the driver isnt fitting to Win7....

I am trying to search ONLY for files that include (2). When I try i get every thing that has a 2 in it. This is unacceptable. too much of a good thing is still too much. Is there a way to do this in windows 7????????

Problems using logman -cf to load counters from file.

I'm trying to use logman to register a list of counters I want to monitor from a file.

According to the documentation the file should contain one counter per line. After I load it using something like:

logman create counter myCounters -cf mycounters.txt

Logman says it completes succesfully but when I look at the counter collection in perfmon I get one entry that is just a backslash.

this behaviour occurs for all of the following syntaxes:

\Processor(*)\% Processor Time

\Processor(*)\*

\\machinename\Processor(*)\*

I also tested all of the above surrounded by double quotes as show on the Performance Team's logman blog. The double quote variations always say something is wrong with the parameter.

How is the logman -cf option supposed to be used in order to get all of the counters in the file into the data collector set?

We are not admins on our computers. It seem to me that Win7 (Windows 7) do not let me add printers. It asks me for approving printer drivers. A dialogue comes up: Do you trust this printer? Windows needs to download and install a software driver from \\server computer to print to <printer name>. ...

I've disabled User Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > Control Panel/Printers > Point and Print Restrictions
However it still asks me for confirmation.

The exact same policy works fine on Windows Vista with UAC enabled.

Windows 7 un-mutes without asking

I have Windows 7 on a Toshiba Satellite, from a clean install. I normally have the volume control muted. However, Windows 7 keeps un-muting it, and adjusting the volume up a few percent at a time. How can I prevent this behavior, so that it is always muted unless I tell it not to be? Thank you.

Hello.

System is AMD 5000+ , 4gb RAM using Windows 7 Home Premium (retail) 64 bit. This was a low-level format clean install.

Everything seems to be running smoothly with win7. Until recently I have not had any issues applying windows updates.
But using wu to to update the driver "Audio - Realtek High Definition Audio" is repeatedly failing with the following log entry:

I have cleared the windows update download cache to insure that the new update is downloaded correctly.
The code 80070005 seems to be an Access Denied error, but I do not know what wu dll is causing the error, nor which file or location wu is denied from accessing.

I was able to apply the update using Device Manager. I selected the audio driver and chose Update Driver Software. Further selecting Search Automatically...., the driver installed and updated correctly.

Since the update said it was downloading the update - but the download took no time for 11MB - I believe the auto search used the same downloaded files that Windows Update tried to use.

So the problem:

With 2 different PC with Windows 7 x64, I have this error (21 times on 10 seconds) at any time that maintainig the session of standar user, go to user administrator (user change).

Any know waht is the problem?

Windows 7 Won't shutdown

I have installed/ungraded Windows 7 Beta on my Inspiron E1705 over Vista. I hadn't had any problems initially however I noticed now that it won't shutdown. It goes to the "logging off" page but won't shutdown. I don't know exactly when it began because I usually but my laptop into Sleep mode. I do have all of the updates that Microsoft released for Windows 7.

I tried to restore to a previous time but there were no restore points created.

Does anyone have any ideas? Should I re-ugrade the installation of Windows7?

Hello,

When opening a video AVI file there's a random chance that it will lock the system up completely and the only way to bring the system back is a hard reboot. After the reboot I can run avi files normally until the next lock up, including any files that have previously crashed the system.

The lock up is random and total. There is no mouse or keyboard response and no blue screen, just my frozen desktop. The players I've tried are vlc and wmp and I've installed other codecs. The system still locks up.

The only info I've found on the subject is that there was a similar issue with an RC version, but I can't find any solutions to the problem.

Any ideas?

Should I be able to wake a Windows 7 machine which is in hibread sleep mode? BIOS and Network Card are set to allow connections, but I cannot seem to wake the target Windows 7 machine. USB, keyboard and mouse wake up the machine ok.

Search does not find files that exist

I needed to find some ISO files on my USB HD. My backups are done daily so there are a number of folder to look through. Entering *.iso is the seach box, both under the Start menu and in the explorer window does not return any ISO file even though a manual search finds them. What gives? The search did return some Adobe files that START with ISO-, whatever they are.

I just fresh installed windows 7 Pro 1 week ago, i'm already having a BSOD. I'm assuming its a driver issue but can't tell for sure. I'm on a gateway T1616 with 2G ram, All network adapters seems properly installed (Realtek). . I have to mention that i just changed a debugging information on startup and recovery from Kernal memory dump to small memory dump (128 KB) thinking this would help! I am running Windows 7. I use Picasa for downloading pics and videos from my camera. I have lost some recent pics and videos of my boys, they are no longer in my picasa folder. Two questions. One, is there a way to somehow find and retrieve them? Two, is there a better program for managing my pics, videos or other dowwloads from my camera?

W7U 64-bit Blue Screen Crash: "Bad-Pool-Header"

W7U 64-bit Blue Screen occurred during Micro-Trend Scan (Screen corrupts, followed by BS). After Normal Restart, everything seemed to work OK. Random Errors also occurred earlier with "Program xxxxx Stopped Working" message. Included in the Programs that stopped working are: Windows Explorer, Windows Gadgets, Desk Manager, Shut-Down (System reboots after Shut-Down command) and User Apps. Latest User App installed is HWINFO32 which installed with an Error message: "Program Failed: the requested operation requires escalation". The program installed and message appeared: "Windows has corrected an Installation problem". HWINFO32 works. Seems like progressive and random Kernel Korruption? (No viruses detected at the time of failure)

This is an HP S3xxx series Slimline Pavilion with AMD Athlon X2 5600+ 2.9G processor and 4G memory and ASUS 4650 HD 1GB DDR2 128-bit GPU, running ATI CCC latest software suite. Windows self-upgraded CPU Driver after detecting a recent upgrade of CPU to the AMD 5600+. Running latest version of OS.

UPDATE: This problem may be related to the CPU cores overheating! Both core temps rose steadily to the mid to high 60s when another BS appeared just as I shut down the system. Would core overheating explain these random failures?

Conflict between IE 8 and Disk Cleanup

Hi,

The following folder needs to be present in order to allow for printing from within IE 8 :
C:\users\Username\Appdata\local\temp\low

This folder also needs the following setting :
/setintegritylevel (oi)(ci)low

My problem is as follows :

- With one of the 2 users on my machine, the folder “C:\users\username\appdata\local\temp\low” is deleted each time that Disk Cleanup is ran.

- That makes printing from within IE 8 impossible (even the page-preview shows empty pages)

- The solution is to run the following command manually in order to repair the situation
Icacls C:\users\username\appdata\local\temp\low /setintegritylevel (oi)(ci)low

I have filed this problem already during the beta and during the RC of Windows 7 32 bits, but there has not been paid attention to it.

Now I have the released version of Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bits installed on my machine and I still have to repair the situation each time the particular user dares to do a Disk Cleanup.

This is very annoying :

- I’d appreciate a reaction from MS about this issue and why it has not been taken into account during the beta and the RC.

- I’d like to receive a solution to this problem (it has become urgent by now).

Can't see files on another computer in Homegroup

I have setup a Homegroup with three computers. On one of the machines all the libraries have been marked to Share With Homegroup (Read & Write) and I can see the libraries on the other machines but when I click on them nothing happens - I am unable to see any of the files in these libraries!

Is there something else I need to do?

I installed GTA IV on my laptop which used to have Windows Vista Home Basic, and now has Windows 7 Ultimate. I got the error on both OS's, so this is not a Windows 7 issue.
I went in to it all fine and everything, went in and out and in and out multiple times, then finally I decided to log in to Windows Live. It told me there was an update for Windows Live and I must install it to stay signed in to Live. I do this and this is where the problem starts. I put the disc in and attempt to start the game, instead of the game starting I get this error:
GTA IV FATAL ERROR: TEXP70 - GTA IV FATAL ERROR: Unable to create depth render target - Please re-install DirectX and/or install the latest video card driver.
I have no clue what causes this but I have the latest video card drivers and I have tried to re-install DirectX.
If I uninstall the game and then re-install it, still no luck. I must first delete the Registry entries for Rockstar Games products.
What is causing this and how do i fix it?
I am getting a graphics upgrade at Christmas and I want this game to work so I can "break in" my new card.
How do I fix this?

I have an Intel X3100 (I know, cant even almost nearly play it, but I wanted to see...and then I ran into this and I am concerned)

Hi,

When i remote desktop to a terminal server from windows 7 RC and run terminal services manager and remote control a terminal server session (which i do quite a bit, as i am an IT Administrator) it connects to the session for a split second but then disconnects and displays the following error:

because of a protocol error this session will be disconnected. please try connecting to remote computer again

It does this every time i try and connect to a terminal server session.... annoying much!

Anyone had a similar problem or is this alreadya known problem, i have search the forum but could not find anything related.

Issue with deleting files from the trusted installer

I am trying to delete files from the win7 pc and I keep on getting
this message that files are owned by the TrustedInstaller. I want to delete the windows.old folder to get the extra space back which is getting used by the windows.old folder.

iexplore.exe and explorer.exe processes don't terminate

I've noticed on my Win 7 Pro x64 system that after I run Explorer or Internet Explorer, the explorer.exe and iexplore.exe processes never get deleted from my Windows Task List. As a result I end up with multiple processes running for each executable. Lately my IE8 displays an "IE crashed" message even though when I dismiss the dialog, IE continues to work just fine.

How do I get these ghost processes to terminate on their own? Thanks. thorne

Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit on desktop. USB External drive for backup. Desktop backs up OK. Notebook on home network Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit. Notebook fails on backup to drive on desktop. Cannot write to the drive, error code 0x80780047. Properties set on drive for Everyone Full Control. Passowrd set in backup. I can write to the drive from the notebook but backup can't write to the drive. Any help greatly appreciated.

XP NTFS V/S Windows7 NTFS

I am using windows 7 dual boot with XP installed on two physically different HDDs. I am facing problem with windows 7 chkdsk. when ever i am copying or downloading files from net & copy them to drive of win7 & during start windows 7 shows chkdsk boot message & scan all drives that i used to copy or paste files under XP & it gives messages related to indexes errors.

Strange thing is that it deleting files . this has already deleted my important work.

Attaching part of chkdsk log that i found.. its related to exe file that i downloaded from net & it removed. when i realized this & check it has also deleted my important pdf files & strange thing is that that day that day chkdsk log is not present in event viewer.

With help of CHKNTFS i put XP drives into exclusion list & now its not scanning those drive during start-up but its still doing the same when ever i moving data to Win7 drives from XP.

fsutil fsinfo ntfsinfo command shows that NTFS version on all drives is 3.1 even those were formatted from WIN7(I am not sure what it should be but i thonk for xp its 3.1 & win7 its 6.0 or 6.1)

please help me to resolve this problem as don't want to loose more data in fight of two OSs.

Last if i am coping files 10 times from XP to win7 drive 8 times win7 scans drive for error.

USMT 4.0 printer migration XP to Windows 7 failure

I have performed profile migration using USMT 4.0 from an XP machine to another machine running Windows Vista and successfully performed the task. However, when i performed the same onto a Windows 7 machine network printers did not migrate. PFB the config.xml file I have modified as per our requirements. Please suggest a solution ASAP as there is an urgent requirement

Sync Error with offline files of mapped network drive involving recycle.bin

If this is not the correct place to ask this, can you direct me?

Windows 7 ultimate x64, I have a drive of one computer mapped to another computer as a network drive and made it available offline. It is not the 'c:' drive of the computer it resides in. It is a data storage drive.

When I sync, about 85% of it syncs, then I get 21 errors involving '$Recycle.Bin'. Then a sync failed notice.

One of the biggest data folders does not complete synchronization.

The drive is a 250Gb drive about 1/3 full.

Can I exclude the 'Recycle bin' from the sync process?

If that is not possible can I remove the Recycle bin from the drive that is being mapped?

If it's necessary to remove the recycle bin from the mapped bin, can files deleted from it still be recycled throught the recycle bin on the OS 'C:' drive?

Help in Windows 7 becomes scrambled after connecting to the net

I installed windows 7 on over 100 systems in a school lab network
and all was good including the help system.

But after connecting to the internet to activate, the help system
now looks and behaves funny. I lo longer get answers to questions
I type, images are missing and I see the string "__elbauser__"
a number or times in the help text.

Please does anyone know anything I could have done wrong?

IE 8 TAB Fail to open in windows 7

I have reset the IE8 setting and there seem no change at all.

The strange case of the missing wbengine

I have a new PC with Windows 7 on it. After discovering that I could not run some backup functions (error stop 0x80070424) I found that wbengine was missing from the registry. With some help from this forum I imported a wbengine file into the registry and everything worked fine. A day later the wbengine file was missing again, something had deleted it.

Dell PC TuneUp is active on the PC along with Avast antivirus. I am suspicious that one or the other may be involved but as yet have no proof. Or is something else going on?

Any ideas?

Windows 7 RC Randomly Freezes for 2 minutes then Returns to Normal

Sorry if this is in the wrong place.

About a week ago I did a clean install of Windows 7 RC 32 bit onto my Asus G1S. I really like it so far and other then a simple driver update from nvidia everything has been working well. With one exception. I have yet to figure out what triggers it but I'll be surfing the web using Firefox (fully updated) and normally listening to music on Winamp. After I click a link the page stops and I get the circular waiting mouse pointer. I hover all over the firefox page and nothing changes it's frozen, I click on the page and it fades slightly and says in the top left "Not Responding" If I hover over the different icons on the taskbar they seem to work. But if I try to open up the Documents folder, it will start to open, then freeze as well. My music will also stop sometimes. (haven't noticed consistency with that) Although if the music does freeze and I open winamp it loads fine. But if I click next song it will freeze.

So basically everything in some way or another is frozen. About 1 to 2 minutes will go by and then everything will resume as if there was never a problem in the first place. If I tried to open a notepad document, that loads. The song changes. The website loads. everything continues as if nothing was wrong.

It's really inconsistent too. I can't seem to figure out a common link. Sometimes it will happen 3 times in 20 minutes (which is extremely frustrating) Other times it will happen once or maybe never in 5 hours of time.

Does anyone have any idea what is happening, or experienced similar problems? If you need more information just ask, I'll try to elaborate as much as possible.

My Backup is failing as the Volume Shadow Copy Service has an error with the code (0x80042306). Going via the Event Viewer I am invited to "Resolve any failures you find" . I dont know what the next steps are in order to provide a solution.

Windows 7 dual boot issue on sony vaio

I have recently purchased sony vaio vpccw15fg model comes with Win 7 on it with Recovery Partition.
When I installed xp it works fine, but as i want to dual boot it with my win 7. When I put my Recovery Discs and boots my laptop and repair my win 7, it does not shows xp in boot options.

Task Scheduler Problem - Windows 7 Ultimate x64

After upgraded from Vista x64 Home Premium to 7 x64 all other functions were worked fine but scheduled tasks.
Scheduled Tasks open normally and I can review tasks but if I try to create new task, import one or just open old tasks properties, MMC crashes. I can create new Basic Task, but either there I cannot change its properties. If I choose at the end if creating task "Open the properties dialog for this task when I click finished", MMC crashes.
If I choose tasks condition at Task Scheduler Library for preview MMC just crash, but every other case MMC shows following information:

I have googled for solution but did not find practically anything:
There is one registry key that include two entries with path c:\windows\help\taskscheduler.chm, but if I put the file there it won't help. If I modify or remove these two registry entries, they always come back as they were.
I have uninstalled Visual Studio 2008 standard edition and installed it again. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled .net framework 3.51 via control panel, but nothing seems to solve problem. I have also taken ownership of mmc.exe and taskschd.msc ect.

Could someone help me, please... This makes me nuts

I have a clean install of Windows 7 on a new hard drive. I also installed Office Enterprise 2007. I have the previous hard drive plugged into the system and am tryint to move my files across. When I try to move the outlook data files from the old location G:\Documents and Settings\...\Local Settings\Microsoft\Outlook\ to a folder on my new hard drive, it tells me I need aministrator permission to move the file. I am the only user on the system and have admin priveledges. How do I overcome this permissions garbage?

Or... how do I migrate my existing Outlook.pst file from the XP install into my new install of Outlook on Win 7?

I was studying backup technology in W7 today. It makes new backup files each time the backup is running. It's not the same as in Windows Home Server, where the technology determines the changes and then mirrors them to the backup file. Is there any solution on how to make this "smart" backup available in default W7 Backup app?

Hi

            I have bought a computer with Windows 7 and I put it in the same workgroup as the other computers of my family. And I have had a lot of trouble with sharing folders over the home network. There's a computer with XP that Windows 7 can see and some days, I can access the shared folders on that computer, but some other days it keeps asking for the Network password . I don't even think I have a network password, whatever I tried to input there, it didn't work(I tried the user and password of the other computer, the ones on my computer, no password, it just says it's wrong and asks for the network password again). I actually never set a network password. Then there's another computer running on Vista. Here, the same problem. Windows 7 can always see Vista, but some days he asks for the network password, some days he doesn't and there's nothing that I can do to control that. The XP and Vista can both see my computer and access the shared folders with no problem.
           I have checked on http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Networking-home-computers-running-different-versions-of-Windows the ports, even if I have Windows Firewall and the necessary ports are open(except for the ones for domain, which I opened, checked to see if anything changes, same problem, closed them back).
           In the network settings, the network detection is on, the folder and printer sharing is on, public folder sharing is on, ask password for sharing id off.
           I really don't know what to do anymore. Can anyone please help me?
