Windows 7 problem with Matshita bd-re uj-225s
- I installed Windows 7 on my Dell XPS M1530. I have problem with playing my bluray movies. I put disc into the slot and I only got message "loading" and it is loading and nothing happens.I waited 15 minutes few times, but no luck. It is MATSHITA BD-RE UJ-225S ATA. Dell website does not provide any support for windows 7 yet. Would you be able to suggest what else to do?
I can play other dvd`s and cd, problem is only with bluray.

Hi again. I would like to let you know that I called Dell and they did some tests. I have got response that nVidia graphics driver are not compatible with Windows 7, so I will not be able to play any bluray movies until Microsoft will take care of that issue. I would like to pre-order Windows 7, but if I do not know if drivers are going to work I am stuck. Can you update me if you solve this problem?
Hi Joanna
Thank you Joanna
Unfortunately, hardware drivers are the responsibility of the hardware maker. Microsoft cannot develop drivers for third party hardware products. They can only do this for their own hardware products.
I recommend that you keep checking with Dell and nVidia for updated drivers.
Hope this helps.
Thank You for testing Windows 7

- joannahybka,
We've heard varying reports of certain Blu-Ray software not working under Windows 7. Which player are you using? People seem to be having success with PowerDVD, which is officially endorsed by Microsoft .
-Alex - Hi. I had PowerDVD, but older version and it did not work. I called Dell and I have to tell they suprised me with next day delivery disc for reinstalling cyberlink PowerDVD DX 8.1 Software for Blu-ray playback. I did reinstall PowerDVD, but now after inserting bluray movie I have got message that I have incompatible graphics driver. I am not sure what does it mean, do I need to install something else, do I need to have Dell MediaDirect ( because it is dell computer)? Can you advise what to do next? Thank you
- joannahybka,
Can you you share with me your video card information and which driver you're currently using? The newest video driver available from Dell for your notebook model is here , but because you have a nVidia card, you should be able to use these Windows 7 drivers direct from nVidia, as well.
-Alex - Hi Alex. Thank you for your response and information, but I forgot to mention I have Windows 7 64-bit, not 32. I was not able to install drivers, because they are for 32-bit on dell website and nVidia. I will look for 64-bit by myself, but I really appreciate if you can provide those for me also. I am not sure if I will find it.
My video card is nVidia GeForce 8600M GT, when I looked under device manager it also says that it is prerelease WDDM 1.1
With regards Joanna - Hi again. I found nVidia driver for windows 7 64-bit on nVidia website and installed it. I have PowerDVD player and I still can not play blu-ray movies. I got the same message that I have incompatible graphic driver still. What else can I check? Do I need Dell MediaDirect installed in order to play that movies along with PowerDVD palyer?
Joanna - Hi again. I found something else when I looked into my control panel/ I have nVidia PhysX (32-bit) installed. Maybe that causes problem with graphic driver. How to install 64-bit version. I looked on nvidia website and I found this Geforce driver release 181.71 on March 03. 2009 for Windows 7 ( 64-bit). http://www.nvidia.com/object/win7_x64_181.71_beta.html Is this the right one? I tried to install it, but it just stuck in the end , there was 1 sec to the end and it could not finish download. I cancel it , because I was not sure if I did the right thing. Can you advise?
Thank You Joanna - Joanna,
Second verse, same as the first - here's my last post, only with the newest 64-bit nVidia drivers , and those from Dell .
I would recommend uninstalling PhysX just for the test, although it shouldn't cause any serious conflicts.
-Alex - Hi. I installed nVidia drivers for Windows 64-bit as you provided and unistalled PhysX, but no luck. I still have the same message "Incompatible graphic driver". Should I tried other player? But if it is problem with graphic driver then whatever player I install there will be problem, isn`t it?
Windows 7 is still a release candidate, so I thought maybe you should figure out what problem is causing that I can not play bluray movies, so it will not happen with other computers. I just wanted to point out problem, so you can pay attention in your future research.

- Hi Joanna and Ronnie,
I've installed Microsoft Windows 7 RC (32bits) on my Dell M1530 laptop (with Nvidia 8600M gfx card), and I'm having the same issue as Joanna : the blu-ray disc is slow and can't read blu-ray movies discs.
I've opened a thread yesterday on Dell's support forum here : Looking for a working driver for Matshita BD-RE UJ-225S Blu-ray device on Dell XPS M1530 with Windows 7 RC
I've already ordered my Windows 7 licence for this laptop, so I would really like to be able to use my +300€ Blu-Ray writer under Win7 :-(
Thank you for any help !
- I've just looked into my Microsoft Device Manager and here are a few more details about my XPS M1530 system under Windows 7 Ultimate 32bits :
Blu-Ray device is recognized as a "MATSHITA BD-RE UJ-225S ATA Device".
Driver is C:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\cdrom.sys, by Microsoft Corporation, 6.1.7100.0 (winmain_win7rc.090421-1700). Dated 21/06/2006
Gfx bpard is recognized as a "NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT"
Driver is NVIDIA 8.15.11.8603 (27/05/2009) - In NVIDIA panel, version is identified as 186.03
Note: Biometric Coprocessor (don't know what it is) has no driver installed...
Hope that it will help to find a solution.
- HI lugduweb!!!
I want to let you know that I finally found solution for my blu-ray player!!!! I checked nvidia website yesterday and they just posted new update for GEFORCE release 186.Here is the link
http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook_winvista_win7_x64_186.81_whql.html
It worked for me,finally my Power DVD plays bluray movies.Hurrrayyy!!!
But I have windows 7 64-bit, you need to find update for 32-bit. Here it is http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook_winvista_win7_186.81_whql.html
I hope it will work for you also.
Joanna - Hi Joanna !
Thanks a lot for your answer. Unfortunately it seems that something else is wrong with my system because it still does not work. When I launch the MediaDirect player it tells me that my " no DVD or no DVD disc detected on your computer".
I've also tried to install Cyberlink PowerDVD 9 trial, but it still does not work (it tells me that 'there is no disc in the drive").
I guess that my problem is not a gfx driver proble9 m but a Blu-ray driver problem.
Regards.
