    I've been trying to get my SoundBlaster Audigy ( http://support.creative.com/downloads/welcome.aspx?nDriverType=11#type_11 ) to work for a few days now. But everything I tried so far has failed. I've tried to installed the Vista Driver, the XP driver, the beta driver (found here http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprohardware/thread/646164a0-94d6-42a6-8c28-313dc73c7994 ) but none has worked. I've already disable the onboard sound card so it wouldn't interfer.

    Despite the various driver tried, none of the control panel will allow me to do anything, saying the no audio out device has been detected or something to that effect. In the device manage, Windows was able to see it a SB Audigy, and recognize that there a problem with the sound card. But non of thier tools were able to fix it. It's said "The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)". No matter what I do, nothing in the Sound option would allow me to really do anything

    I've installed Windows 7 Ultimate 32x a couple of days and everything except the sound worked fine. Prior to that I had Vista installed and the sound was working fine then. I have a dell dimension 4700, Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.00 GHz processor, 2 GB of RAM.

    I can't think of anything else that might me relevant but if more info is needed by ask. Thanks in advance for the help...I'm getting extremely frustrate with this problem.


    On a similar note, if I cannot get teh Audigy working, I would like to get the onboard sound card to work (soundmax integrated digital audio) but like above, none of the control panel work no matter what I do.

    Can you try installing it using this method? It allows you to set up a Windows XP mode for Windows 7.

    Just tried it and same deal... didn't worked.

    It supposedly installed but when I tried using the control panel, it didn't detect anything.

    OK, I can't remember the exact model of mine, I will try to dig it out over the weekend and try to figure it out, did you try installing the Dell Dimension audio drivers in compatability mode? Can you post the hardware ids from device manager for each of these for me?

    Just tried both method and neither seem to worked. I also already tried allowing the device to search the internet... to no avail.

    From what I've been reading up, many people who installed or upgrade to the 7100 Build face the same problem I do. So it might be the case I'll have to wait until MS create a fix for it. I might just downgrade back to XP in the mean time after a few more attempt at this.

    If you will post your "hardware id" for the soundmax it may help. Also, does it still show as a "unknown device" in device manager? does it show at all? information like that will help us try to resolve this, from what I have read many people are having positive results as well, we just have to match up the hardware id. What sort of errors are you gtting when trying to install the drivers?
    Once you get to the page with drivers listed click on the beta drivers link....

    That device is definetly supported by these drivers, I would try Vista first, try installing in compatability mode, if that won't work install from device manager, find your sound device (onboard) and right click, update driver, browse my computer and browse to C:\dell\drivers\R145551 and try this driver, or you may have to select -> update driver -> browse my computer -> let me pick from a list -> have disk -> browse -> C:\dell\drivers\R145551\i386\Vista\smwdmCH6.inf , that is the file that supports your device

    Yep, tried that.

    Same error both ways? To set compatability mode right click on setup.exe, properties, compatability tab, check the checkbox and select Vista, then apply, OK, then run setup.exe, you could also try it without the compatability mode..

    Was the file name SB24_W7DRVBETA_US_1_04_0090.exe for the Creative Audigy card?

    Can you go in device manager, right click on the devices and "uninstall driver", then maybe reboot and try again...
    For the Soundmax the file smwdmCH6.inf reads;

    indicating support for your onboard device

    In the creative file P17.inf from  SB24_W7DRVBETA_US_1_04_0090.exe reads;

    Perhaps you aren't signed in with full Administrative rights for installing drivers? but then I would think windows should be smart enough to give an error saying exactly that
    Perhaps windows isn't giving file reading rights where the drivers are being extracted to?
    Is device manager gives the error code 39 after installing the driver or are you getting this error popping up when installing?

    But I think you're right about Window not able to read the file somehow... what can I do though?

    R145551,exe file itself is 3.19 Mb
    You could try extracting the Creative file SB24_W7DRVBETA_US_1_04_0090.exe with an application such as Winrar into it's own folder and try installing that driver from device manager, These drivers should at least install, I think the Creative driver should work because it is a Win7 driver, perhaps not the best because it is a beta driver but should work, the Soundmax driver should at least be able to install

    Anyone else with thoughts...suggestions....

    Me too, but I am stubborn, you said the creative driver gave the error the "device not supported" when installing. I suggest trying to extract the files and the device manager method
    What is the exact error msg you get when attempting to install the Soundmax driver? From the installer or the eroor from device manager when attempting the install with the device manager method?

    Windows update has a Win7 compatable driver for your Soundmax, again the exact device, can you try "automatically" searching for a driver, allowing it to search the internet, It may help to uninstall driver first if necessary

    I was thinking, If you were you download the trial version of Winrar, it can extract the files from the SB24_W7DRVBETA_US_1_04_0090 file to a folder, you can then attempt to install the driver through device manager,

    I think for the soundmax, you should go in device manager, uninstall any driver, then "search automatically" for a driver, including the "search the internet" option, there is a driver in the online database that should install, you can try the same with the Audigy card, it also has a driver on the online database, however I don't expect that one to work as well, it should install and give us a starting point...

    first uninstall any drivers as long as it gives the option, go to device manager, select the devices, right click on them, select properties -> driver tab -> uninstall, repeat this until it runs out of drivers to uninstall (note; we are not uninstalling the device, we are selecting uninstall on the driver page, so we uninstall the current non working driver), then choose to "update driver" but have an internet connection and allow it to "check the internet" for available drivers, it should at this point download the driver from the internet and attempt installation. This should work with both devices as long as we uninstall all versions already on the machine using this method
