My microphone only works with the  Setup a Microphone wizard. When I talk the volume bar moves and it seems to be working. The bar also moves when I go to Change Sound Card Settings, under microphone the volume bar moves when I talk. The problem is the microphone doesnt work with any other application. Its doesnt work with Sound Recorder, Skype,
Rosetta Stone, etc. . All drivers are up to date(the driver is "high definition audio device". I have tried different microphones and the same thing happens. I have Windows 7 Ultimate( I also had this problem when I had BETA though).

I am assuming you have Realtek drivers for your computer.

I had a similar problem on my computer and these were the steps I took:

    1. In skype tools -> options -> audio. There I had 2 microphones listed and I had to toggle between them. So I finally installed realtek drivers and deleted one mic.

    2. In your realtek drivers boost the mic gain to about +40 dB.

    Hi,

I would like to suggest you downloading and installing High Definition Audio Codecs from realtek site to narrow down this issue.
