Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits works with only up to 4GB RAM
- I recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits and after failing to install with 8 GB of memory, reduced the memory to 4GB and the installation succeeded, however Windows will never complete the startup after I add the 4GB extra to make a total of 8GB.
Memory installed: 4 banks of 2 GB each Crucial Technology CT25664BA1339
Video card: ATI RADEON HD 3800 series
Motherboard:Intel original DP45SG
CPU:Pentium Dual- core E2220 2.4 GHZ PRODUCT CODE:BX80557E2220
Hard Disk:Western Digital 1.5 TB SATA model WD15EADSSP
I get many different messages:
BAD_POOL_HEADER
STOP:0X00000019
Ntfs.sys
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA STOP:0X00000050
WimFsf.sys
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA STOP:0X00000050
MEMORY_MANAGEMENT

Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool

- I tried switching all memory modules and I discovered that one of them is defective because Windows does not start with this module installed. However I wonder why the Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool did not detect any errors.

- I tried with only 6GB and after trying the repair startup I get BSOD:
PFN_LIST_CORRUPT
STOP:0X0000004E - After running the Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool again with no issues I was able to see the login screen, I entered my credentials only to see
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA followed by a quick restart. Tried after the restart to enter in Safe Mode and I see MEMORY_MANAGEMENT - I tried switching all memory modules and I discovered that one of them is defective because Windows does not start with this module installed. However I wonder why the Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool did not detect any errors.

- Hi,
This is an obvious hardware fault!
The Windows diagnostic will tell you what error was caused by the faulty memory chip(s) but doesn't know where or what the problem is in the actual chip, that's normal for the OS.
Windows 7 will read as much memory as you can put on your board as long as the chips all match.
I work with 12 GBs of Patriot DDR3 on a tri-channel Asus mobo and i find no problem at all.
I strongly suggest you replace the faulty chip before all other data gets corrupted and lose everything you have; even on other hard drives than the OS (C drive). It happened to me before with brand new memory chips.
Your issue will be solved then.
Best regards,
Remi
