QuestionKeys repeat uncontrollably

    Since installing Windows 7 RC, keys seem to repeat uncontrollably, at random times. I'll be typing in Word 2007 or Live Messenger, and a random key will act as if I'm holding it down, and repeat until I press Escape. The computer is a Thinkpad T61p, but I'm using an external keyboard and a KVM switch. I would assume that it's the KVM, but I've tried it without and have the same result. I've also used the same keyboard with a Mac through the KVM, without any problems. Never happens there, and rarely happens in any Windows software except Word and Live Messenger (I don't think it ever happens in Outlook, for example).

    Can anyone offer any suggestions? It makes editing in Word nearly impossible, as I spend half my time deleting extraneous characters.  -- Ken

    Our Windows 7 installations are similar in that it appears that the "Windows" key gets stuck, and will not clear until you hit the ESC key. This behavior has also been noted on our Vista installations also.

    Thanks, but it's not just the Windows key: lots of keys (can't tell if it's a subset of the keyboard, or all keys) get stuck occasionally. Is this a known problem with the RC? With plans to fix before ship? Thanks -- Ken

    So no one else is having this trouble? That would be bad. The issue is mainly in Word and Live Messenger--keys repeat uncontrollably, and randomly. Won't happen for a long time, then it happens for a bit, then stops again. It affects any key on the keyboard. Not fixing this would make Windows 7 totally unusable for anyone with the problem. -- Ken

    I have the exact same problem. I have a Dell Lattitude D820 with an external keyboard (a USB attached Trust-keyboard). Randomly, keys get "stuck" in any given program than I´m running.

    I´m using Windows 7 Ultimate (the release version).

    I´m also experiencing that my mouse stops working from time to time and that it´s a bit shaky when I move it around.

    It's happening to me in any application, client or web based, not just MS apps

    it also occurs with the mouse, whatever I scroll over opens, plus repeated openings of an application I select once, or repeated openings of a mail message in outlook.

    We have tried different keyboards, that doesn't seem to really be the problem.

    I'm having the same issue here.  Just got myself a Microsoft Ergonomic keyboard and I get keys stuck often, although they aren't really.  I'll be typing and a keeeeeeeey will stickkkkkkkk although I only pressed it once.  It drives me crazy!  I'm using Vista on a Lenovo ThinkPad T61.  The built in keyboard works fine.

    Hi,

    Thank you for posting to TechNet.

    Could you please mention that Keyboard & KVM Manufacturer / Model.

    Is this wired or wireless keyboard ?

    Thanks.

    Probably this might be a workaround for those who are experiencing this, try hooking up the transceiver directly to the notebook instead of the replicator. This seems to be working, I'll leave the explanation to the experts.

    I have the same problem. I upgraded from Vista 64-bit to Win7 Enterprise 64-bit. Keys get stuck in any program, and mouse is either shaky or stops working for a while. I do computer related work and sit in front of the computer 6-8 hours a day. The problem occurs a couple of times per hour.

    My mouse is a Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0 USB, and my laptops external keybord is what came with my HP Compaq 8510p (model KU-0316), however, this happens also with my laptop's native keyboard as well, not just the external keyboard. I do have to point out that when my mouse stops working, the laptop touchpad mouse still works.

    Wow, glad to have found this thread, I was scared shitless, was palying TF2 and all of a sudden my game started playing by itself but random, asdwqr keys, randomly over and over . . . then windows opening and closing when i moved my mouse over it.

    Thought I was getting Hacked, or had a virus.

    I just installed Win 7 from XP.

    I have a logitech G15 keyboard and a Microsoft sidewinder x8 mouse.

    My issues with Win 7 so far 5 days into 7 are;

    - canon pixma ip4200 printer dont work;
    - unexplainable lag and higher ping in steam games;
    - mouse lag
    - keyboard repeating keys randomly

    yesterday all of a sudden the R key would be seen by my PC continuously.  I booted into the HD diagnostics (boot cd) and it shows up there.  I enter windows and it shows up there every where (run line, url etc...) funny thing though it does not repeat at the windows log in prompt or the system recovery.

    I have a MS ergo 4000 keyboard and tried a Adesso and same thing.  Hooked the KB's to another and they are fine.  If i reboot enough i can usually get into windows where this does not occur.

    I adjusted the Keyboard Repeat Delay and Repeat Rate in Keyboard Settinngs. It seems to have resolved my problem for now.
