AnswerEpson 1280 printer and what does (M) mean?

I have an Epson 1280 Photo printer that runs successfully on Windows 7 64-bit (retail version, not RC), but I have a couple of questions.

This printer appears twice in the Printer Select box, once as "EPSON Stylus Photo 1280" and once as "Epson Stylus Photo 1280 (M)"  I can't figure out what the "(M)" means (tried searching through Windows help). Only the version without the "(M)" seems to work - I tried a printer test with the one with the "M" and nothing happened.  The drivers have a different UI, but only one (which looks like the one I saw under Windows XP) gives version information, so I can't tell which is newer.

I downloaded and installed a driver for Windows XP (64-bit).  The Epson site had nothing newer.

Though both printer versions show up in the Printer Select box when you go to print,  only one (The ""M" version) shows up in Devices and Printers.  (I thought that yesterday it was the one without the "M" that showed up there, but maybe I'm wrong and obviously can't check that).

On the whole, I am very pleased with this new version of Windows.

    Hi Michael,

I suspect this may be related to the driver, since it is not for Windows 7. I also checked on the Epson site and still could not find the Windows 7 driver for it:

    Epson Stylus Photo 1280

To get more information and check if there will be a driver update, it is recommended that you contact EPSON support for help.

I gather that the "(M)" is not a Microsoft-standard suffix.

I don't expect that Epson will ever update the drivers for this printer.  It's an older model.

As I said in my original post, the printer runs fine as long as I don't select the "(M)" version, so I can live with the minor annoyance of an extraneous printer in the Printer select box.

If I right-click of the context menu on the single printer shown in Devices and Printers, I get to chose which of the two printers I want to specify for the operation (such as "Printer Properties...").  Apparently the "Print Test Page" is no longer available, or at least I haven't found it.
