I have a Motorola USBw 25100 wi Max adapter set up for Clear networks on my laptop. I have not been able to get the laptop to recognise the device and use it. I am using the device on another of my computers and it works well with XP. I have installed the software on the W7 laptop and it seems to work- it can not find the USB adapter when I try to connect. Any ideas or is any one else using a similar Wi-Max network adapter?

Was your Motorola USBw 25100 Wi-Max adapter issued to you by your cell phone provider (Sprint, T-Mobile, etc)? I ask because I can't find much documentation or support for that adapter online and I wonder if it may have been rebranded for distribution by other companies.

Yes, it was repackaged from the provider- Clear. It is a Motorola USBw 100, as shown on the Motorola site. I have talked with Clear tech support and they are not aware of a driver for W7, also left email for Motorola Tech Support, no answer yet from them.

I am getting ready for a trip to Thailand where I know there are a couple of WiMax carriers and hope to use the laptop there. I am considering making a dual boot out of it and putting XP back on so I can use it. Any ideas on the driver or software for Windows 7 would be appreciated.

May I know if the Wi-Max adapter appears with a yellow exclamation mark next to it in Device Manager?

To make the device work properly, a proper driver is needed. Since there is no Windows 7 driver for this adapter yet, please try the drivers for Windows Vista or Windows XP and see how it works. You can also install it in “Compatibility Mode” or try the option “Run as Administrator”.

Meanwhile, if this computer has another Internet connection, please run Windows Update and see if there will be a driver released.

If you have the CD clear connection manager software for your USBw 25100 you will find the needed drivers, use drivers listed for Vista. I'm using my USBw 25100 with Windows 7 to send you this reply. Good luck on your up coming trip...........

it doesnt work for me either. I get the yellow question mark. unfortunatly compateablity mode doesnt work for me and the vista xp drivers cant be found. anyone tell me where to get them by thier self?

If you still have your software/driver disk, the drivers are actually there, but you have to manually direct the device to them. I have used by Clear USB dongle with Windows 7 32 and 64 bit systems desktop and laptop as well.

To get the Clear Wimax Dongle to activate in Wimdows 7
1. Install Clear Connection Manager before inserting WiMax Dongle
2. Insert WiMax Dongle
3. Windows will show driver failed to install
4 Go to Control Panel and device manager
5. Right Click on the WiMax device (Should Show USBW25100 with a yellow triangle)
6. Select Update Driver
7. Select Browse My Computer For Driver Software
8.Migrate to: CommonAppData\Clearwire\Connection Manager\Drivers\wimax\Vista\32bit or 64bit (depending on if you have a 32 or 64 bit Operating System)\Beceem 1.1.1.2
9. Then left click OK and then Next it will then begin the install process
10. Note *** After this initial process you will get an error that the driver did not install properly, simply find the device in Device Manager with the yellow triangle (it should now be renamed something like Beceem Tarang3 and redo the above steps a second time and it will install this time

******** I don't remember have to do this "Hocus-Pocus" with XP, but there are XP, 2000, and Vista drivers on the CD my CD is dated August 2008, there was an earlier revision that was part of the Wimax Beta didn't work with windows 7.

If your CD doesn't have the drivers look on Driver Guide as I will try to post the drivers there as well.

I have the Clearwire connection manager on a USB (not a CD) and there is no folder on it. How did you find that folder

It's not on my hard drive or on the usb installation dongle at all.

Solution for people who doesn't have the CD but a USB.

1. Installed the connection manger. You can download the latest ClearCM_v1.04.0067 from Clear.com (You must login to your accunt and look for download software).
2.Used the Winzip to unzip the ClearCM_v1.04.0067.exe that you just downloaded from the Clear.com to a temp folder (C:\Temp)
3.Removed file extension on all files that has ".ale" extension. (Ex. zzz.sys.ale --> zzz.sys)
4. Follow hockey1767's posted above. (On hockey1767's step 8, you will need to point to "...\CommonAppData\Clearwire\Connection Manager\drivers". If you are doing right, you should see the windows 7 is installing the driver for you. Once the driver installation is completed, you will see the yellow triangle and the device name is no longer as USBW25100. Again apply the step above and this time it will install the driver for you.

I think I have an even older Motorola dongle...what works for me is...
at step 8.
Migrate to: CommonAppData\Clearwire\Connection Manager\Drivers\wimax\XP\32bit or 64bit (depending on if you have a 32 or 64 bit Operating System)\Beceem 1.1.1.2
then step 10
simply find the device in Device Manager with the yellow triangle with "USB BCS200-0", again apply the above folder (XP!) to update driver

Then it works out for me...just for your reference!

I get to the point where its installed and it doesnt have any "!" marks on it in the device manager, but when the clear connection manager comes up it just sits there searching for network and the dongle has a red light on. I know I get a signal here cuz when I plug it in my laptop which has winxp I can connect right away. any Ideas why its still not working for me?

I had this issue too- completely remove the device, including deleting the driver off the machine, then retry. To do this:

Device Manager - right click on device - click change settings - go to driver tab - click uninstall - check box that says delete driver - click OK.

Then try the above steps again.

This is assuming that you have only managed to get the ONE device showing up in Devices/Printers. If you have both (I hate this but) - there are "two" devices, one that's the actual hardware, the other is a "virtual" device - you have to delete the driver for both.

If I worked for Clear for this kind of thing, I would make sure all of my tech reps knew what to do for W7. So many people downloaded the RC that I think it's a shame Clear doesn't have any "support" whatsoever for it. Shame on management. It really is as simple as what's outlined above, even if it takes you 4 hours and loss of hair to prove that point on your own ;)

hey guys

i already installed my device and there no yellow i beside

and my device connecting successfully but when i open my internet explorer for some reason its not connected

even i check the network connecting and every thing ok

another question does it right my device work on 32bit and don't work on 64bit

Easier solution

Download the .exe file with the drivers from clear.com. Install using administrative privileges. This will get you the connection manager, but not the drivers for the USB modem. Using an archiving program like 7-zip or Winrar to extract or unzip the .exe file. Plug in the modem, and when it says it can’t find the drivers, direct it to the folder of unzipped files, more specifically the Vista drivers, which WILL work. You will have to do this TWICE to get all the correct drivers installed in Device Manager. I have done this on my Dell Vostro and my wife’s HP tablet, both running W7. I have been using it for a month with no problems except one. After you disconnect, you have to use the safely remove hardware dialog. If you pull the modem out without ejecting it, there is an instant Blue Screen of Death. If you do eject, no problems at all.

my problem is not with driver my pc recognize the dongle and w7 install the driver auto and my Motorola connection manger detect the the dongle and even connect it to the internet and give "connected to mada wimax" and even the connection manger and show my that i have receiving bytes and sending bytes

but on the network icon on the taskbar there is yellow mark say not access to the internet

i got the clear exe and i try it here in my office running on xp 32bit i didn't try on w7 yet

but i have notice that the clear manger didn't find mada (the network in my country) its keep telling (searching for network) gust that

and what is wimax 4g does it the clear connection manger work on all wimax network or its gust on specific network

Happens to me everytime. I have learned my lesson and now remember to "Safely Remove..." first. Anyone else seeing this behavior?

its funny cuz thats how I got the drivers, it kept giving me an error when I tried loading the drivers like that maybe a fluke but I extracted the entire exe to a usb flash driver install the connection manager and the drivers from there after following the above instuctions and it started working great for me

clear exe didn't helped at all give me "error while installing the driver" even the cd came up with device didn't help and couple drivers i got from googling

i got confused didn't know what to do so i mix the driver i got from clear and the cd and the other driver and try to update the driver

and it worked really i dont know how but worked and connected to the internet still having hard time connecting but after restart the system will work

I have Clear in Metro Atlanta and it works great, not biased caused am an independent retailer (lol). Here is what i did to get mine working.
1. First download winrar.
2. inset Dungle and select open folder to view files
3. Right client the setup file and select open with winrar
4. Go to the following: Setup.exe\CommonAppData\Clearwire\Connection Manager\drivers\wimax\xp\32Bit\Beceem 1.1.1.2 (this folder contains the xp files you need)
5. Now follow the instruction from hockey1767 below.

So I have tried all of these steps, and its still a giant no-go for me, I'm fustrated now. I'm one of those people that when I can't force something to work, I work even harder trying to force it to work. Well anyway, I finally broke down and called Clear for support after trying all of these steps, I ended up talking to a level 2 agent at their call center, and I have a new device on the way.

According to the agent that I spoke with, there is a known issue with the firmware on some of the USB devices, that will keep it from working properly with Windows Vista & 7.

When I connect mine, I get nothing but the hardware connected sound, and then the hardware disconnected sound.

The strange part is, in device manager it shows that the device driver installed properly but it "could not start, code 10".

If you look under the "Hardware & Sounds" area, it shows the WiMAX Bus Driver as being installed and working, but the Beceem WiMAX-00 device has the yellow triange next to it, but it doesn't give you any information as to why its flagged.

Hopefully the new device (it should arrive tomorrow), will solve the issue, if not I will be highly upset.

I knew this was going to be a giant pain in the rear when I got home and tried to install the software from the USB device, but the software on the USB device was corrupted.

Ok, so I didn't want to delete my other post.

In a LAST bit of fustration before I went copletely crazy, I decided to repeate the driver specific process again, only this time I used the drivers that came on the USB device (remember, I could not launch the setup from the USB device). And I am now using clear service.

Thank you everyone for your posts on this issue, as its helped me resolve it.
