I have my tv and computer connected through a

vga port and the sound connected with a splitter as shown by several different sites.  I am running Winndows 7 and my computer doesn't have an HDMI port so I can't connect that way unless you know of a way to turn the VGA port to an HDMI port.  I'm not that experienced in this but completely frustrated by something that is probably really simple!  Help!  Thanks, Marie

Also, when I disconnect the splitter that is connected to my headphone port audio will then play out of the computer speakers!  HELP!

You cannot convert HDMI to VGA without some sort of external hardware converter.

Audio for the TV should be a direct connection from the Speaker out port on your sound connections, not the Headphone port.

Not knowing exactly what the make, model, and series of your computer makes it virtually impossible to tell you how your sound output needs to be connected to the TV.

Must be Audio Out going to the TV.  The audio need to go from the computer to the TV.

The headphone output is not high enough power to provide sound to the TV.  The headphone output is intended for headphones only and is appropriately low powered to not over power the headphones.

If you do not have an Audio Out to go to external speakers or to the TV, then you would need and external Headphone Amplifier to boost the headphone output to a level that the TV could use.  I have never look for a headphone amplifier so I do not have any recommendations.

All your problems seem to be hardware related - i.e., you do not have the proper hardware connections to have audio and video on your TV.  Windows will provide the necessary information to the TV when all the hardware connections, and cabling, are available and connected appropriately.

Can you provide the exact make, model and series of your computer system, or of the motherboard if it is home made?

I suggest you go to the Toshiba forums website @ http://forums.toshiba.com/

Find the appropriate Toshiba forum and post you problem there.  Whatever it is it is not a Windows fault.  Either your laptop does not have the capability to provide sound to the TV or you may need to change a setting in the TV's menu to accept sound from an external source.

Whatever it is, it is not Windows causing the problem and it is not likely there is anything in Windows that can be changed to alleviate this situation.
