Vista upgrade advisor says my Nvidia Geforce 7600GS 512MB graphics adapter supports Aero.
Windows 7 upgrade advisor says it doesn't....
Will the 7600GS work with Windows 7 Aero or not ?

It is because the display card driver installed is not the latest one and it is not suitable for Windows 7. The Geforce 7600 GS shall work OK with the latest driver mentioned in Windows 7. :-)

    Yes, it will.

(Requirements: 128MB of video memory, DirectX 9.0, shader model 2 or later. The 7600GS is supposed to support shader model 3.)

I can't explain the error. Which OS did you run the upgrade advisors under? (I suppose it's XP.) Do you have DirectX 9 installed? Which nVidia drivers are you using?

    Thanks for your reply.
I'm using XP. I have DirectX 9 installed. I'm using most recent Nvidia drivers - 6.14.11.9107 September 2009.
I guess it must be a bug with the Windows 7 advisor then , because the Vista advisor says it's OK ...still like to know the reason though.

    Hi Digibitz,

Geforce 7600 GS is compatible for Windows 7. Please see here: Windows 7 Compatible Center.

Also, according to Nvidia's website, a new driver for Geforce 7600 GS is published which is compatible for Windows 7: GeForce/ION Driver Release 191. (This driver only supports Windows Vista and Windows 7).

    Regards,

    Linda

    Thanks Linda,

Yes, everything seems to indicate it will work ....except for the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor program.....
I wonder what it is about my system that causes it to report "Your current graphics adaptor won't support Windows Aero user interface".
Anyway, I bought Windows 7 today , so I'll find out for sure soon.

    Thanks,

Obviously flawed logic in the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor then , because an XP machine wouldn't have that driver installed anyway...

The good news is that I did the XP to Windows 7 custom ('clean') install and found that everything worked fine right away.
I didn't need to install a single driver... spooky! I did download and install the latest nVidia driver anyway.

Hey guys, I didn't know whether to expand on this thread or not because I am having problems with this video card. I have the same video card, but it is an AGP. It works just fine with Aero, but the problem I have is when AERO is turned off, then my screen becomes pixelated and looks like it's shattered. Also, whenever I log on or off of Windows 7, it shows the same problem on the log on/off screen. I have donw much research and troubleshooting with various video card drivers, monitor drivers, and so on. I have found out it is a video card driver because I can rollback to an early driver of a year or two old and the problem goes away. But when I try to play a game like Flight Simulator X, it will not start up because of some shader problem. Any one have any ideas because this is getting very frustrating.
